SAINT JOHN – The fans turned out in full force Sunday afternoon at TD Station, with 4,002 in attendance to celebrate Fleaburn’s Birthday. Unfortunately, the Halifax Mooseheads snapped their seven-game losing streak, defeating the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-1.
William Yared was the lone goal scorer for the Sea Dogs.
Liam Kilfoil led the Mooseheads with two goals and two assists, while Shawn Carrier, Quinn Kennedy, and Patrick McNab rounded out the scoring for Halifax.
GAME SUMMARY
Six minutes into the first period, Mooseheads forward Caylen Blake hustled from his own end and slid the puck to Liam Kilfoil, who backhanded it past Justin Robinson to open the scoring. With just 14 seconds remaining in the first, a Mooseheads faceoff win in the Sea Dogs zone set up Shawn Carrier, who lifted a shot over Robinson’s glove to make it 2-0 heading into the intermission.
At the 8:57 mark of the second period, with the Mooseheads on the powerplay, Carlos Händel set up Quinn Kennedy, who scored on his own rebound to extend the lead to 3-0. Halifax struck again at 13:26 when Justin Chiras’ shot was tipped by Kilfoil to Patrick McNab, who capitalized on an open net to push the score to 4-0.
The Sea Dogs finally got on the board with five minutes on the clock in the second period. Nicolas Bilodeau dropped the puck to Dylan Rozzi, who found William Yared. Yared fired a shot on net, which was tipped in on the powerplay to cut the deficit to 4-1.
With two minutes remaining, and the Saint John net empty, Kilfoil potted his second goal of the game, sealing a 5-1 victory for Halifax.
