RECAP: Mann, Krayer lead Sea Dogs past Mooseheads
HALIFAX, NS – The Saint John Sea Dogs secured a crucial win in their push for a playoff spot Saturday evening against the Halifax Mooseheads at the Scotiabank Centre. Eric Young was sharp in net, stopping 25 of 26 shots to help lead the team to a 3-1 victory.
Saint John now sits just one point behind the Gatineau Olympiques in the race for the final playoff spot.
Matthew Krayer, Matteo Mann, and Zach Morin were the goal scorers for the Sea Dogs, while Liam Kilfoil tallied the lone goal for the Mooseheads.
GAME SUMMARY
Matthew Krayer opened the scoring with his first QMJHL goal, picking up Matthew MacLean’s rebound and backhanding it over Jacob Steinman with four minutes to play in the first period. The Mooseheads responded just 15 seconds later, as Quinn Kennedy set up Liam Kilfoil to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The second period saw Saint John outshoot Halifax 11-7, with both teams trading penalties, but the score remained locked at 1-1.
After nearly 34 minutes without a goal, Matteo Mann picked the top corner on a feed from Nate Tivey, putting the Sea Dogs ahead 2-1. With 15 seconds remaining, Zach Morin sealed the win with an empty-net goal, securing the 3-1 victory for Saint John.
