RECAP: Late surge by Regiment sinks Sea Dogs
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The Saint John Sea Dogs touched down in Newfoundland for the first of two against the Regiment on Friday night. It was a close matchup until the final few minutes, resulting in a 6-3 Regiment victory.
Five minutes into the first, Justin Robinson made a big save on Louis-François Bélanger’s breakaway, but Justin Larose buried the rebound. The period concluded with Saint John trailing 1-0 and 11-4 on the shot clock.
At 4:55 of the second, Liam Arsenault ripped a no-look backhander past Robinson. Swedish defenceman Max Vilen picked the far side to beat Antoine Proulx on a feed from Olivier Duhamel at 7:43 for his first QMJHL goal. After a busy frame, Saint John led 23-20 in shots but trailed 2-1 on the scoreboard.
Dominic Pilote scored for the Regiment at 7:21 of the third, but Dylan Rozzi answered 30 seconds later on the power play to keep it a one-goal game with his sixth of the year. Newfoundland then struck twice, 20 seconds apart, with three minutes to go as Dawson Sharkey had the game-winner and Maddex Marmulak added the insurance marker.
The Sea Dogs didn’t quit as Alexis Joseph scored on a setup from Alex Donovan with 50 seconds left, but Max Dinneen hit the empty net to finalize the 6-3 score.
