RECAP: Late rally comes up short against Mooseheads
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs fought back hard with three unanswered goals in the third period on Wednesday night, but fell 4-3 to the Halifax Mooseheads at TD Station.
Mooseheads forward Quinn Kennedy scored the only first period goal, finishing a give-and-go play at 5:27. Saint John outshot Halifax 11-9 but trailed 1-0 after one.
At 1:13 of the second, Shawn Carrier scored for Halifax on a feed from Oleg Kulebiakin. Kennedy added his second at 13:09 to make it 3-0 through 40 minutes, with the Sea Dogs leading 21-20 on the shot clock.
Halifax made it 4-0 early in the third on Carrier’s second. At 5:08, Zach Morin put the Sea Dogs on the board with a slap shot from the high slot. With nine minutes to play, Patryk Zubek sent a long pass to Nolann Héroux, who found Elliot Dubé to slip it through Owen Bresson and pull within two.
