RECAP: Late comeback attempt falls short as Titan edge Sea Dogs 4-3
SAINT JOHN – Despite a strong push late in the game, the Saint John Sea Dogs dropped Sunday’s game 4-3 to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at TD Station. The Sea Dogs record now sits at 7-5-0-0.
Zach Morin continued his hot start with two points, including a goal with 13 seconds remaining. Egan Beveridge and Eriks Mateiko were the other two goal scorers for the Sea Dogs.
Titan goals were scored by Blake Pilgrim-Edwards, Maddex Marmulak, Mavrick Brunet, and Colby Huggan.
GAME SUMMARY
After a scoreless first period, the Sea Dogs got on the board 4:13 into the second period when Eriks Mateiko picked up a rebound and jammed it in at the side of the net for his fifth of the season. Three minutes later, at the 7:33 mark, the Sea Dogs turned the puck over in front of their net, which was scooped up by Titan forward Blake Pilgrim-Edwards and shot past an unsuspecting Charles-Édward Gravel, tying the game at one.
The Sea Dogs regained the lead at 9:10 when Egan Beveridge broke in from center ice and found twine with a solo snipe, beating Langevin high glove-side. The Titan responded at 12:26 when Ethan Dickson settled a bouncing puck and sent it to Maddex Marmulak, who tied the game at two with a perfectly placed wrist shot.
Eight minutes into the third period Tyson Goguen set up Mavrick Brunet who rifled the puck past the outstretched blocker of Gravel, breaking the tie and putting the Titan up 3-2. The Titan struck again at 17:54 when Alexandre Lallier and Colby Huggan connected, with Huggan beating Gravel up high to extend the lead.
With the net empty and just 13 seconds remaining, Zach Morin forced one past Langevin to pull the Sea Dogs within one. Despite outshooting the Titan 35-32, the Sea Dogs were unable to force overtime, ultimately falling 4-3.
