RECAP: Krayer scores lone goal in loss to Eagles
SAINT JOHN – In the second-last game of the year, Justin Robinson stood tall for the Saint John Sea Dogs with 38 saves on 41 shots at TD Station. Despite his effort, the Cape Breton Eagles came out on top 4-1, officially ending the Sea Dogs’ playoff hopes.
Luke Patterson, Brayden Schmitt, Alexis Toussaint, and Cam Squires each scored for the Eagles, while Matthew Krayer tallied the lone goal for Saint John.
GAME SUMMARY
It was an intense first period for Justin Robinson with 14 saves, but as the period wound down, Eagles forward Luke Patterson cut across the crease and tucked it past him with just 15 seconds remaining.
After multiple turnovers in their own zone, the Sea Dogs gave up a shorthanded goal when Angelo Fullerton fed Brayden Schmitt in the slot, who snapped it off the post and in five minutes into the second.
The next 22 minutes went scoreless until Romain Litalien set up Alexis Toussaint on a 2-on-1, extending the Eagles lead to 3-0. Saint John pulled Robinson for the extra attacker, but Cam Squires capitalized with an empty-net goal.
The Sea Dogs finally solved Alexis Cournoyer at 17:40 of the third when Mitchell Wagner forced a turnover in the Eagles zone and dished it to Matthew Krayer who went to the backhand and buried it to finalize the score at 4-1.
