RECAP: Joseph nets hat trick in New Year’s Eve loss to Regiment
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Alexis Joseph led the charge with three goals and an assist as the Saint John Sea Dogs suffered a 6-5 loss to the Newfoundland Regiment in front of 4,401 fans at TD Station on New Year’s Eve.
Olivier Groulx set up Alex Donovan for his 14th of the season at 1:13 on the power play. Louis-François Bélanger answered at 3:27 with a power play goal, and Newfoundland took the lead at 7:27 on a Tyson Goguen redirect. Saint John tied it 2-2 before the end of the first when Joseph roofed Dylan Rozzi’s rebound on the man advantage. Shots were 12-11 for Saint John after one.
Early in the second, Everett Baldwin scored through traffic on a pass from Joseph. Less than four minutes into the period, Joseph added his second on the power play from Baldwin to make it 4-2, prompting a goaltending change for the Regiment. Justin Larose tied it 4-4 with goals at 8:06 and 10:49.
The Sea Dogs took back the lead when Joseph completed his hat trick at 17:10 on an odd-man rush out of the penalty box, but Marik Danicek tied it 5-5 before the intermission. Saint John led 32-25 on the shot clock after two.
Noah Laberge scored the game-winner on the power play at 7:56 of the third to make it 6-5. Final shots were 43-41 for Saint John, and six of the 11 goals scored in the game came on the man advantage.
