RECAP: Groulx’s late pair not enough as Regiment edge Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Captain Olivier Groulx scored two late goals, but the Saint John Sea Dogs fell 5-4 to the Newfoundland Regiment at TD Station on Friday night.
The Regiment opened the scoring 18 seconds in on a goal from Louis-François Bélanger. Saint John answered with a power play marker at 4:40 when William Yared finished a pass from Angelo Fullerton. Rafaël Courchesne made key saves during a penalty kill at 13:55, and the first period ended 1-1, with Newfoundland taking a two-minute minor at the buzzer.
Newfoundland pulled ahead 3-1 in the second on goals from Alexis Michaud at 3:29 and Liam Arsenault at 8:53. At 17:37, Alexis Joseph slammed home Bo Damphousse’s rebound that was sitting on the goal line, but Blake Pilgrim-Edwards answered less than a minute later. The Regiment led 4-2 after two.
Dawson Sharkey made it 5-2 during 4-on-4 play, assisted by Pilgrim-Edwards. At 12:27, Groulx lifted one over Louis-Antoine Denault on the power play from Everett Baldwin. Just over two minutes later, Alex Donovan set up Groulx for another power play goal to get within one, but that was the final tally of the night.
