SHAWINIGAN, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs lost game one of their three-game Quebec road trip Thursday night despite getting out to an early lead. Saint John ultimately suffered a 6-2 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes at the Centre Gervais Auto.
Julien Wasmer scored his first as a Sea Dog at 13:47 in the first period on a wrist shot from the top of the circle. Julien Lanthier tied the game at 16:21 for the Cataractes, but William Yared responded with a snipe on a give-and-go play from Dylan Rozzi to restore the Sea Dogs’ lead before the end of the first.
Former Sea Dog Vince Elie tied the game at 2-2 at 17:12 in the second on a turnover by Wasmer. Shots were tied 18-18 after two.
Shawinigan took control early in the third as Nathan Ouellet buried the eventual game winner at 2:50, then Elias Schneider added an insurance marker at 5:59. Just 46 seconds later, Jiri Klima made it 5-2 on a feed from Félix Lacerte and Elie. Mathieu Plante closed out the scoring at 12:20, finishing a pass from Louis-Émile Dumais and Ouellet to finalize the 6-2 result.
