RECAP: Early lead not enough as Sea Dogs fall to Wildcats
MONCTON, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs gave the Moncton Wildcats a scare on Sunday afternoon, but couldn’t hold on to the early three-goal lead, falling 6-3 at the Avenir Centre.
Saint John came out flying in the first. On the power play at 6:51, Zach Morin opened the scoring with a beautiful shot in close to beat Jacoby Weiner. Alexis Joseph made it 2-0 at 8:32 off a feed from Morin, and Nolann Héroux potted his first QMJHL goal at 9:47 on a breakaway to extend the lead. Moncton got on the board late with a power play goal at 17:33 but the Sea Dogs led 3-1 after one.
The Wildcats flipped the game in the second with four unanswered goals. Kuzma Voronin scored at 1:42, Tommy Bleyl tied it at 4:57, and Caleb Desnoyers netted the eventual game-winner at 5:41. Niko Tournas added another power play marker at 6:36 to make it 5-3. Moncton carried a 35-19 shots edge after two.
Preston Lounsbury sealed it with a shorthanded empty-netter at 19:59 of the third to close the scoring at 6-3.
