RECAP: Eagles soar past Sea Dogs with second period surge
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs struggles continued as they dropped a 7-3 decision to the Cape Breton Eagles at TD Station on Saturday night.
Cape Breton opened the scoring 1:12 into the first. Saint John answered at 6:31 when Alex Donovan finished a feed from Max Vilen and Olivier Duhamel to make it 1-1. A late first-period scrap saw both Jacob Beaulieu and Will Murphy assessed fighting majors and game misconducts. The Eagles led 1-1 on the board and 10-6 in shots after one.
The Eagles took control in the second with three quick strikes at 1:15, 4:38, and 8:30 to go up 4-1, then added another at 16:50. The Dogs cut into the lead at 18:18 when Elliot Dubé scored from Zachary Morin and Vilen. Shots after two were 27-14 for Cape Breton with the Eagles ahead 5-2.
Cape Breton made it 6-2 with an empty-netter at 15:02 of the third and added another at 17:22. Saint John answered 18 seconds later when Oskar Drabczynski buried his first of the season from Dylan Rozzi and Olivers Murnieks to close the scoring.
