RECAP: Donovan’s pair not enough as Eagles double up Sea Dogs
SYDNEY, N.S. – Two third period goals from Alex Donovan were not as enough as the Saint John Sea Dogs fell 4-2 to the Cape Breton Eagles at Centre 200 on Friday night.
Lucas Romeo opened the scoring on the man advantage at 14:44 of the first, finding twine on a feed from Aiden McCullough. At 18:29, Raoul Boilard made it 2-0 with a wrist shot past Rafaël Courchesne before the end of the period.
The second period saw Cape Breton take three penalties, but Saint John couldn’t capitalize. The Sea Dogs outshot the Eagles 12-7 in the frame.
At 6:59 of the third, Alexis Joseph set up Everett Baldwin for a one-timer on the power play and Alex Donovan tucked the rebound past Félix Hamel to get the Dogs within one. Romeo scored his second power play goal of the night at 12:14, tipping in Reece Peitzsche’s point shot.
The Dogs pulled their goalie at 16:26 for the extra attacker, and Donovan capitalized with his second of the night, tipping in Baldwin’s shot again at 17:00. Still down by one, Saint John kept pushing, but Eliot Litalien found the empty net to close out the game.
