RECAP: Dogs unable to solve the Regiment in overtime loss
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Olivier Groulx did everything he could for the Saint John Sea Dogs on Saturday night with two goals and an assist, but the Dogs dropped a 5-4 overtime decision to the Newfoundland Regiment at TD Station.
Groulx intercepted a Regiment pass before finding Maxime Côté, who beat Antoine Proulx on the first shot of the game just 22 seconds in. The Regiment tied it 1-1 when Luke Sinclair snapped one past Arseni Radkov at 2:56. A mad scramble later led to Angelo Fullerton tucking home Alexis Joseph’s rebound at 17:54 to restore the lead. Shots were tied 12-12 after one.
A pretty tic-tac-toe play from Joseph to Alex Donovan, finished by Groulx, put the Dogs up 3-1 at 4:18 of the second. Alexis Michaud pulled the Regiment within one 35 seconds later when he snuck a shot past Radkov. Saint John led 3-2 and held a 25-22 edge in shots after two.
Justin Larose and Quinn Norman scored to give Newfoundland a 4-3 lead in the third, but Groulx tied it on a shorthanded goal with 12.1 seconds left to force overtime.
3:08 into the extra frame Marek Danicek scored to win it for the Regiment.
