RECAP: Dogs come up short in front of sold-out crowd
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs played their final home game of the regular season Saturday at TD Station in front of a sold-out crowd. A rough third period sank the Dogs as they fell 4-2 to the Halifax Mooseheads.
Caylen Blake opened the scoring on the power play at 13:08 for Halifax. At 15:39, after an impressive backcheck, Nolann Héroux tucked one home at the other end, with assists going to Alexis Joseph and Alex Donovan. The first period ended tied 1-1, with Saint John outshooting Halifax 10-6.
The second period saw both teams take two penalties, but no goals were scored. Saint John led 19-18 on the shot counter after two.
Halifax pulled away in the third with goals from Quinn Kennedy and Shawn Carrier, then Liam Kilfoil scored on a penalty shot. Saint John got one back with 56 seconds left when Joseph scored his 24th of the season with the extra attacker. The Sea Dogs outshot Halifax 36-29 but dropped the final 4-2.
