RECAP: Dogs clawed by Cats at TD Station
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs were bested Sunday afternoon at TD Station by the Moncton Wildcats 4-2 despite outshooting them 28-25. Nolann Héroux made his QMJHL debut and recorded his first point.
Olivier Groulx captured the early lead at 2:34 for the Sea Dogs on an assist from Héroux. The Wildcats were quick to respond less than two minutes later when Alex Mercier broke in alone before sliding it past Justin Robinson. The first period came to an end tied at 1-1 with the Dogs outshooting the Cats 13-9.
At 10:42 of the middle frame, Robinson made a highlight reel save on Rian Chudzinski but Niko Tournas picked the top corner less than two minutes later giving the Cats a 2-1 lead. The second period concluded with Moncton leading in shots 21-19.
The Wildcats extended the lead to 3-1 on a goal from Gabe Smith at 6:00. At 7:38 Max Vilen walked in and fired a shot from the top of the circle to bring the Dogs within one. With four minutes to play Teddy Mutryn beat Robinson finalizing the score 4-2.
