RECAP: Courchesne stands tall but Islanders take it
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Rafaël Courchesne was the story Saturday night at TD Station, stopping 42 of 47 shots and earning first star, in the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-4 loss to the Charlottetown Islanders.
Everett Baldwin opened the scoring at 10:28 of the first, ripping one home on a feed from Oskar Drabczynski. Charlottetown answered at 13:45 through Anthony Flanagan, but Saint John regained the lead at 16:03 on the power play when Jabez Seymour finished on a rebound in tight. The Sea Dogs led 2-1 after one with shots favouring Charlottetown 11-10.
The Islanders took their first lead of the night with goals at 6:37 and 9:45 in the second to go up 3-2. Saint John responded late in the frame at 19:45 when Fullerton buried a feed from Nolann Héroux to tie it 3-3 heading into the third. Charlottetown held a 36-15 advantage in shots after two.
Fullerton struck again at 9:00 of the third, converting on a pass from Bo Damphousse to give Saint John a 4-3 lead. Charlottetown tied it at 11:27 on a goal from Nathan Leek, then took the lead for good at 19:09 when Tyler Peddle scored the game-winner.
