RECAP: Late goals not enough as Sea Dogs suffer loss to Wildcats
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped a 5-2 decision to the red-hot Moncton Wildcats, who extended their winning streak to eight games, Friday night at TD Station.
Evan Dépatie opened the scoring for the Cats at 4:50 of the first period to give Moncton the early lead. The opening frame ended with the Cats outshooting the Dogs 11-7.
Early in the second, Teddy Mutryn fired a shot from the blue line that deflected past Rafaël Courchesne. Moncton extended its lead on the man advantage at 14:28, when Gabe Smith roofed Mutryn’s rebound to make it 3-0 heading into the third.
At 8:49 of the third, Kuzma Voronin picked up a loose puck and lifted it over Courchesne from in tight. Just over a minute later, Smith potted his second of the night on a feed from Voronin to push the lead to 5-0.
Alex Donovan got the Sea Dogs on the board at 18:56 with a deflected point shot. Just 15 seconds later, Bo Damphousse scored his first as a Sea Dog on a nice pass from Nolann Héroux to make it 5-2.
