GAME RECAP: Rozzi stays hot, but Regiment pull away late

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Dylan Rozzi capped a three-goal weekend with a tying goal in the second period Saturday night, but the Saint John Sea Dogs ultimately fell 4-2 to the Newfoundland Regiment to split the weekend series.

At the tail end of a Regiment penalty kill, Tyson Goguen jumped out of the box, picked up the puck, and set up Matthew Frost out front who put Newfoundland up 1-0. Shots favoured the Sea Dogs 11-10 after one.

At 8:09 of the second, Rozzi found the back of the net on the man advantage on a feed from Alex Donovan to tie the game 1-1. The Sea Dogs outshot the Regiment 14-5 in the second period alone and led # in that department through 40 minutes of play.

Just three minutes into the third, Jamie Glance made a beautiful play to get the puck to Thomas Charbonneau, who went bar-down with a highlight-reel goal to give Saint John a 2-1 lead. Frost tied the game 2-2 with his second of the night at 11:50. At 16:12, Phenwick MacLean scored the go-ahead goal on the power play after a mad scramble in front of Rafaël Courchesne.

With 13 seconds to play, Alexis Michaud scored into the empty net to close out a 4-2 win for Newfoundland.
