ST. JOHN\u2019S, NL\u00a0<\/b>\u2014\u00a0The Newfoundland Regiment Hockey Club announced today that President Glenn Stanford has been named the recipient of the Paul-Dumont Trophy, awarded annually by the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) to the league\u2019s Personality of the Year. The award was presented Wednesday as part of the QMJHL\u2019s annual Golden Puck ceremony recognizing individual excellence across the 2025-26 season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Presented since the 1989-90 season, the Paul-Dumont Trophy\u00a0honours\u00a0individuals who exemplify outstanding character, leadership and positive media contributions that enhance the image and well-being of the QMJHL. The award has traditionally been presented to players, making Stanford\u2019s\u00a0selection\u00a0as a front office executive a distinguished and rare recognition of the impact he and the Regiment organization have had on the league in their inaugural season.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In its first year of play, the Regiment set a new standard for QMJHL expansion franchises, averaging 5,234 spectators per game at Mary Brown\u2019s Centre in St. John\u2019s, a record for any first-year club in league history. The team finished third in the Eastern Conference and sixth overall in the QMJHL standings. Stanford, who brings extensive experience in professional hockey from his work in the AHL and ECHL among other leagues, was credited by the league for his deep familiarity with the St. John\u2019s market and his role in the success of major junior hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever a person receives an award, it is never about the individual, but more about the people around them,\u201d said Stanford. \u201cSuch is the case here. Our front office staff works tirelessly behind the scenes. Gordie and the coaching staff put\u00a0a great product\u00a0on the ice. And our season ticket holders, corporate partners and fans stepped up in a way that made everything possible. I am proud to\u00a0represent\u00a0all of them in receiving this\u00a0honour, and deeply grateful to the QMJHL for this recognition.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Regiment also announced that General Manager Gordie Dwyer was named a finalist for the Maurice-Filion Trophy, presented each season to the QMJHL\u2019s General Manager of the Year. The award was presented to Yanick Jean of the Chicoutimi\u00a0Sagueneens, who guided his club to a second-place regular season finish just one point behind the Moncton Wildcats for top spot in the QMJHL.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dwyer\u2019s finalist recognition reflects a series of formative roster decisions that helped\u00a0establish\u00a0the Regiment as a competitive presence in the Eastern Conference. Prior to the season, Dwyer\u00a0acquired\u00a0forward Justin Larose, selected Marek\u00a0Danicek\u00a0in the CHL Import\u00a0Draft\u00a0and added veteran Dominic\u00a0Pilote. Dwyer further strengthened the roster at mid-season, adding forwards Alexis Michaud and Ryan Dwyer,\u00a0defenceman\u00a0Alexis Mathieu\u00a0and goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault, whose arrival stabilized the crease and contributed to the team\u2019s strong second-half performance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Regiment are currently competing in the second round of the 2026 QMJHL Playoffs against the Blainville-Boisbriand\u00a0Armada. ST. JOHN\u2019S, NL\u00a0<\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment got their second round series back to all square in a dramatic 5-4 win over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in Game Four on Tuesday night at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre.<\/p>\n

Olivier Lemieux opened the scoring for the Armada 58 seconds into the game to give the visitors an early lead which they secured heading into the first intermission.<\/p>\n

Dawson Sharkey replied for the Regiment on the powerplay 6:44 into the middle frame before a Dominic Pilote deflection late with 2:05 left in the second gave Newfoundland a 2-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play.<\/p>\n

Justin Carbonneau and Mael Lavigne struck 39 seconds apart inside the opening three minutes of the third period to give Blainville a 3-2 lead in a flash.<\/p>\n

Blake Pilgrim-Edwards got it back to level with a tight angle snipe 12 minutes before the end of regulation before Maddex Marmulak sent the home crowd into a frenzy with a bullet from the high slot to make it 4-3 Regiment with 4:24 to go.<\/p>\n

Tyson Goguen added an insurance tally empty netter with 58 seconds left which proved vital as Lavigne nabbed a second 16 seconds before the final whistle. Newfoundland would hang on for a wild 5-4 victory to make this series a best of three heading into the weekend.<\/p>\n

BOISBRIAND, QC\u00a0<\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment dropped a back and forth road game 5-3 to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Friday night at the Centre d\u2019Excellence Sports Rousseau.<\/p>\n

Spencer Gill opened the scoring for the hosts three minutes into the game before Ben Veitch replied a few shifts later for the Regiment to make it a 1-1 game after the first.<\/p>\n

Marek Danicek and Justin Larose both found the back of the net a minute apart in the early goings of the middle frame to put Newfoundland ahead 3-1.<\/p>\n

The Armada replied with great pressure however as Mael Lavigne scored twice before Torkel Jennersjo put the hosts ahead with 59 seconds left in the second to make it a 4-3 game in favour of Blainville after 40 minutes of play.<\/p>\n

Vincent Collard sealed it for the Armada with an empty net tally 14 seconds before the final buzzer to make it a 5-3 final.<\/p>\n

Game Three takes place Monday night at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre as the series shifts to St. John\u2019s for the next three games. NEWFOUNDLAND LEAD SERIES 1-0<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

BOISBRIAND, QC\u00a0<\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment snatched game one of their first round series versus the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada with an impressive 4-1 road win on Thursday night at the Centre d\u2019Excellence Sports Rousseau.<\/p>\n

Louis-Fran\u00e7ois B\u00e9langer opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the game as he made no mistake on an early breakaway to put Newfoundland ahead 1-0.<\/p>\n

After Vincent Desjardins responded less than minute later for Blainville, Ben Veitch resorted the Regiment advantage moments later with a deft deflection to put the visitors up 2-1 after 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Newfoundland outshot Blainville 17-6 in the opening period and that trend continued in the middle frame as they doubled the Armada\u2019s efforts on goal in the 2nd. Leading 33-14 in that department, the visitors took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.<\/p>\n

Your Newfoundland Regiment continue their quest for the Gilles-Courteau Trophy on Thursday night with game one of their second round showdown with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.<\/p>\n

The Regiment needed six games to dispatch the Cape Breton Eagles in round one as a 7-3 victory on Easter Sunday secured their first playoff series win in their inaugural season.<\/p>\n

Blainville-Boisbriand meanwhile managed to dispatch the Victoriaville Tigres in four straight games in the first round ending with a 4-1 road win on April 1 to close out the series.<\/p>\n

Under the new QMJHL playoff format, the eight remaining teams in round two have been reseeded. As a result, the Armada and Regiment face-off as the third and sixth ranked teams respectively.<\/p>\n

These two sides met twice in the regular season way back on October 9 & 10 where the Armada ruined the mood at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre with a pair of lopsided results — a 10-4 road win followed up by a 5-2 victory the following night.<\/p>\n

Newfoundland have of course made significant strides and have proven a much improved outfit in the six months since they last took on Blainville. Stronger special teams, key deadline additions, and a historic home attendance feat see the modern day Regiment a much more confident group than the one the Armada encountered in the Fall.<\/p>\n

It will take all those factors and then some if Newfoundland hope to reach the final four as they square off against a very dangerous Blainville-Boisbriand team.<\/p>\n

Puck drops at 8:30pm NL time on Thursday and Friday in Boisbriand before the series shifts to St. John\u2019s for the next three games* (Game 5 if necessary*).<\/p>\n

ROAD WARRIORS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mary Brown\u2019s Centre became a nightmare destination for visiting teams in the second half of the regular season. The issue with round two is the Regiment do not hold home ice advantage and will play Game 1 & 2 on the road. Unbeaten in regulation in their three away games of round one against the Eagles, there are positive signs this group can find a way to win while separated from their fans. Get a split in Boisbriand to start and this series has a different feel heading back to the rock.<\/p>\n

SECURE SPECIAL TEAMS BATTLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Although the Armada come into this series unbeaten in the playoffs, neither their powerplay or penalty kill were particularly efficient in the first round. Giving up a goal on every fourth powerplay against and converting just once on every ninth opportunity themselves, if there is a postseason nitpick for Blainville so far it has been their special teams. Newfoundland conversely had improved PP and PK numbers in round one compared to their regular season outputs. Keep that trend alive and the probability of an upset increases greatly.<\/p>\n

CHIP AWAY BY COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newfoundland\u2019s best players were as advertised in round one, look no further than captain Justin Larose leading the team in scoring against the Eagles. The Regiment did however get consistent contributions throughout their lineup. If they continue to get run support from all four lines the way they did vs. Cape Breton, the Armada could struggle to keep up with the depth scoring of Newfoundland.<\/p>\n

NEWFOUNDLAND WIN SERIES 4-2<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

ST. JOHN\u2019S, NL\u00a0<\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment are off to round two of the postseason thanks to a commanding 7-3 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Sunday afternoon at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre.<\/p>\n

Dawson Sharkey got the scoring started just 59 seconds into the game as he trickled one past Felix Hamel from the high slot to make it 1-0 Newfoundland early.<\/p>\n

Reece Peitzsche replied seven minutes later for Cape Breton but Tyson Goguen restored the Regiment lead on a late first period powerplay to give the hosts a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Newfoundland opened the floodgates in the second period as Maddex Marmulak and Liam Arsenault added singles while Louis-Fran\u00e7ois B\u00e9langer struck twice on the man advantage to make it a 6-1 game after 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

Lewis Gendron found the scoresheet twice early in the third period to cut it to 6-3 but the Eagles would cause no further stress as Sharkey added a second with a late empty netter to make it a 7-3 final as the Regiment reigned victorious in six games to advance to the second round.<\/p>\n

Marek Danicek picked up where he left off last night as he opened the scoring six minutes in with a backhand breakaway beauty to make it 1-0 Newfoundland. Maxime Sauthier would reply with just 21 seconds left in the 1st, his second in as many nights, to make it a 1-1 game after 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

SYDNEY, NS <\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment kept the momentum rolling on the road in Game Three as they took down the Cape Breton Eagles 4-2 on Tuesday night at Centre 200 to take a 2-1 series lead.<\/p>\n

Maxime Sauthier got the home crowd on its feet just 25 seconds into the game as he gave Cape Breton an immediate 1-0 lead. After a back and forth opening period, Alexis Michaud came up with a crucial response just 15 seconds before the first intermission to make it a 1-1 game after the 1st.<\/p>\n

Newfoundland took control of the game in the middle frame as Ben Veitch jumped on a friendly bounce eight minutes into the second period before Tyson Goguen also found himself in the right place at the right time six minutes later to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.<\/p>\n

Derek Andrews got one back for the Eagles late in the 2nd to get the hosts within one going into the 3rd but despite some close calls down the stretch, Marek Danicek put the game out of reach as his snipe from the high slot with 3:32 to go in regulation stood as a crucial insurance tally.<\/p>\n

SERIES TIED 1-1<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

ST. JOHN\u2019S, NL\u00a0<\/b>\u2014 The Newfoundland Regiment responded with a statement 6-2 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on Friday night at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre to tie the first round series back up at 1-1.<\/p>\n

Blake Pilgrim-Edwards pounced on a loose puck five minute into the first period to give Newfoundland a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Dawson Sharkey and Justin Larose tacked on insurance markers early in the middle frame to make it 3-0 Regiment before the Eagles clawed back a couple later in the second to cut it to 3-2 heading into the 3rd.<\/p>\n

Newfoundland found another gear in the final 20 minutes however as Pilgrim-Edwards and Larose both found the back of the net a second time before Louis-Fran\u00e7ois B\u00e9langer made it a half dozen for the home side with 90 seconds to go as they bounced back in style from their game one defeat with a 6-2 win.<\/p>\n

Goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault made 20 saves to secure his first victory of the postseason.<\/p>\n

Both teams take three days to rest before the series resumes in Sydney for Game 3 on Tuesday evening at Centre 200. Game 6 & 7 (if necessary) are back here at the Mary Brown\u2019s Centre and limited tickets remain online at tickets.nlregiment.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
