Screaming Eagles take first-half of double-header 8-1
The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles were at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre for a match-up against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, the first of two games in two nights for both teams. Unfortunately, it was one of those nights to forget for the Titan as the Screaming Eagles won the game by a score of eight to one.
The first period was actually a close affair, ending with the score tied at one. Kyle Farrell of Cap-Breton and Andrew Ryan of the Titan were the two goal scorers of the first frame. It only was from that point that the wheels fell off for the Titan, the Screaming Eagles finding the back of the net three times in the second period and four times in the third.
Farrell, Stephen Anderson and Marcus Hinds each scored twice, while Pierre-Luc Dubois and Jacob Smith both added a tally. After so many strong showings, Titan gatekeeper Daniel Vautour had his first rough start, turning away 32 pucks. At the other end of the ice, Alexandre Bélanger stopped 17 of the shots he faced.
Corriveau stands apart
Titan forward Raphaël Corriveau had a strong game in the loss, firing no less than six shots on net and recording two body checks. He unfortunately just missed on a third period scoring chance, when he was able to pass an opposing defenseman on a brilliant individual effort.
The arrival of the Bash Brothers?
In only his second game with the Titan, Guillaume Vien is proving to be an excellent complement to Nicolas Dumulong, the both whom practice a physical style of play to say the least. Indeed, Dumulong finished the night with four penalty minutes and three body checks, while Vien rattled the boards four times.
Francis gets first point on home ice
Titan rookie defenseman Elijah Francis recorded an assist on his team’s first period goal, which was simultaneously his first career point on home ice. As Don Cherry would say for such a talent: “There are plenty more of those to come!”
Until we meet again
While tonight’s game may be one to forget for the Titan, they will not have to wait long before jumping back onto the ice. Both teams will face-off again tomorrow night for the back end of a double header. The puck drops at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre at 7pm.
