PRESS RELEASE: Former NHL defenceman will hit the green in Golf Classic
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan is excited to announce Bruno Gervais will compete in the 2024 Titan Golf Classic. The fundraiser is a partnership between the Titan and the Bathurst Minor Hockey Association. Proceeds from the classic directly support youth sports, health, and education programs in the region.
The event will tee off on Friday, July 19 at Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club in Bathurst.
Gervais – a former NHL defenceman and Titan – is one of many current or former Titan Hockey staff and players who will be participating in the 2024 Titan Golf Classic. Each team will have the opportunity to have their names randomly drawn to have a member of the Titan organization complete their team as the fourth player.
“We are thrilled to have Bruno Gervais attend our tournament. He’s a prestigious alumnus and we know everyone participating in our golf classic will be eager to have him join their team for the day,” said Acadie-Bathurst Titan Communications and Foundation Coordinator, Bryannah James. “This tournament is our biggest fundraiser, and we love being able to give back to our community.”
Gervais was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2001 draft by the Titan. He made his debut with the team at the start of the 2001-02 season. In his rookie year he would score four goals and add 12 assists in 65 games. The following season he was chosen to wear the ‘C’ and went on to more than double his point total from the previous year. He finished the 2002-03 campaign with 22 goals and 28 assists for 50 points in 72 games and was drafted by the New York Islanders that spring. Gervais was selected as the 182nd pick in the sixth round by New York.
In the fall he skated into his 20-year-old season with Bathurst, scoring four goals and six assists in 23 games throughout the 2003-04 season. Gervais appeared in the 2002 and 2003 playoffs for Bathurst and made the jump from junior to the American Hockey League by the start of the 2004-05 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The following season he would split his time between the Tigers and the New York Islanders and in the following years become a full-time member of the Islanders. Throughout his NHL career Gervais competed for the Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There is limited space for the 2024 Titan Golf Classic. If your group would like to attend our fundraiser, please contact Titan Executive Director, Gilles Cormier at [email protected].
