GAME RECAP: Titan fall to Sea Dogs, snap five game winning streak
The Saint John Sea Dogs snapped the Acadie-Bathurst Titan five game winning streak Friday night. The Titan fell 3-0 to Saint John at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action.
Action didn’t pick up until the second period when the Sea Dogs got on the board. Florian Schenk took a Tyler Peddle pass in front of the net, shooting it past Mathis Langevin to give the road team the lead. Bathurst would get a couple of chances on the powerplay midway through the middle frame but were unable to convert. With just under a minute and a half to go in the second period, Peddle would fire a one timer past Langevin to give the visitors a 2-0 lead over the home side. After two periods, the Titan found themselves down 2-0.
In the third period, the Titan had a bit of life, rallying behind the chants of the home crowd. Using the support of the crowd as momentum, the home side fired off plenty of shots, but were unable to beat goaltender, Charles-Edward Gravel. Langevin was pulled late in the third in favour of the extra attacker. Bathurst generated more scoring chances with the extra forward on the ice, but once again, couldn’t solve Gravel. Zachary Morin, who just joined the Sea Dogs from the United States Hockey League, would seal the game with an empty net goal, his first in the QMJHL. Saint John finished the night with the 3-0 victory.
Langevin was named the third star for his efforts; he turned aside 22 shots in the loss.
Bathurst will be on the road for a while as they head to Saint John on Sunday, Oct. 20 for a rematch with the Sea Dogs. The Titan will travel to Nova Scotia next week to take on the Cape Breton Eagles for back-to-back matchups Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 at Centre 200.
The next home game for the Titan will be Friday, Nov. 1 as they host the Val d’Or Foreurs for the only time this season.
Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
