Alumni Profile: Olivier Filion
Do you know which Titan alumnus holds the record for the most regular season points in franchise history? We’ll give you a hint: he competed for the team during the late-1990’s/early 2000’s and hailed from St-Jérôme, Quebec.
If you guessed Olivier Filion… you’re right! During his four seasons with Acadie-Bathurst from 1999 to 2003 he set the franchise record with 304 points. Former players who made the list alongside Filion include Thomas Beauregard, who slides into second place with 294 points; Mathieu Perreault (285) in third, followed by Zach O’Brien (259) in fourth, Christophe Boivin (219) in fifth, and Riley Kidney (216) in sixth place. Filion ranks third overall in franchise history for most career points in the playoffs (43), which puts him two-points behind second-place Jeff Viel (45) and 14 points behind Perreault, who anchors the top spot with 57 points.
Let’s rewind to see where it all began for Filion and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. He was drafted 26th overall in the second round of the 1999 draft by the Titan, and in his rookie year, he netted 10 goals and 33 assists for 43 points in 71 games. The following 2000-01 season, he would score 21 goals and 33 assists for 54 points in 62 games. Filion would pull away with 104-point seasons in both his third and fourth years with Acadie-Bathurst. In his third year, he had 29 goals and 75 assists, while in his fourth campaign the talented forward had 36 goals and 68 assists. He hit the ice in all four (2000-2003) playoff appearances for Acadie-Bathurst.
During his tenure Acadie-Bathurst finished first in the regular season standings in 2002 and made it to the championship final by playoffs. In 2003 the Titan finished third in the regular season and capped-off playoffs in the fourth spot. By 2003 he was named to the QMJHL Second All-Star Team.
Filion played for the Richmond RiverDogs in the United Hockey League for the 2003-04 season, and then went on to compete in the East Coast Hockey League and Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey throughout the majority of his hockey career. Some of his post-junior accolades include being an ECHL Kelly Cup Champion in 2006 and earning a spot as the Player of the Week during the 2007-08 ECHL season. Filion is currently the Director of Male Hockey & Under-17 Head Coach at the Mount Academy in Prince Edward Island.
