The CHL is also the only development league in the world with players on six of the 10 participating nations\u2019 rosters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canada leads all countries with 23 CHL-developed players as it looks to capture a third straight gold medal, while Czechia follows with seven. Latvia and the United States each have two CHL-developed players on their rosters, while Germany and Slovakia each have one. By league, the WHL and OHL each account for 13 players at the tournament, while the QMJHL has 10, underscoring the CHL\u2019s depth across all three member leagues and its continued role in developing elite talent for the international stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the club level, the Ottawa 67\u2019s (OHL) and Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) lead all CHL teams with three players each competing at the 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship, while the Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL), Qu\u00e9bec Remparts (QMJHL), Red Deer Rebels (WHL), Saginaw Spirit (OHL), Sherbrooke Phoenix (QMJHL), and Vancouver Giants (WHL) each have two players represented. In total, 26 CHL clubs have at least one player competing at the tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Canada opens the 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship today (April 22) facing Slovakia at 12 p.m. ET \/ 9 a.m. PT. Canada will also play Latvia, Norway and Finland in the preliminary round before the tournament concludes with the medal games on May 2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/article\/25-chl-players-power-canada-to-a-historic-back-to-back-gold-medal-at-the-2025-iihf-u18-mens-world-championship\/\">25 CHL players helped Canada capture a second straight gold medal at the 2025 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship,<\/a> marking the first time in program history that Canada won back-to-back gold at the event. Alexis Joseph is the only 16-year-old representing Canada at the tournament.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The other two CHL players eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft are American defenceman Levi Harper (Saginaw Spirit \/ OHL) and Slovak defenceman Filip Kovalcik (Drummondville Voltigeurs \/ QMJHL).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Four players on Team Canada previously represented Team CHL at the <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/prospectschallenge\/\">2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge<\/a> in Calgary and Lethbridge, Alta., last November: defenceman Ryan Lin (Vancouver Giants \/ WHL) and forwards Maddox Dagenais (Qu\u00e9bec Remparts \/ QMJHL), Alessandro Di Iorio (Sarnia Sting \/ OHL), and Mathis Preston (Vancouver Giants \/ WHL). Brooks Rogowski (Oshawa Generals \/ OHL) was <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/article\/roster-announced-for-team-chl-ahead-of-2025-chl-usa-prospects-challenge\">originally selected to represent Team 400\">As the National Hockey League (NHL) post-season begins today, 190 alumni from the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) are set to compete in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs (<\/span><b><i>see the full list below<\/i><\/b><b><i>)<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Those 190 CHL alumni account for more than 45% of the 417 players taking part in this year\u2019s Stanley Cup Playoffs, giving the CHL the largest representation of any development hockey league in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In total, 86 graduates have come through the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), 65 through the Western Hockey League (WHL), and 40 through the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Notably, one alumnus \u2014 Rodrigo Abols \u2014 played in two Member Leagues, the WHL and QMJHL, and is therefore included in both league totals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">All 16 NHL clubs competing in this year\u2019s Stanley Cup Playoffs feature at least eight CHL alumni on their rosters. The Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, and Vegas Golden Knights lead the way with 15 CHL graduates each; the Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Pittsburgh Penguins follow with 14 apiece, while the Ottawa Senators have 13.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the CHL\u2019s 61 clubs, 57 are represented on NHL rosters for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, led by the London Knights (OHL) with 11 alumni. The Erie Otters (OHL) and Kelowna Rockets (WHL) rank next with eight alumni each, while the Barrie Colts (OHL), Owen Sound Attack (OHL), Windsor Spitfires (OHL), and Portland Winterhawks (WHL) each have seven. Among QMJHL clubs, the Moncton Wildcats and Rimouski Oc\u00e9anic lead the way with six alumni apiece.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since 2014, 156 of the 294 players to have had their names engraved on the Stanley Cup \u2014 53% overall \u2014 have come through the CHL. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/records.nhl.com\/playoff-summary\/stanley-cup-winner?season=20242025\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That total includes 10 members of last year\u2019s championship-winning Florida Panthers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, who continued a dominant trend by becoming the seventh consecutive Stanley Cup champion to feature at least 10 CHL alumni on its roster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over the course of the 2025-26 season, 478 alumni from the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL played at least one NHL game, accounting for 46.1% of the 1,038 players who appeared in the league \u2014 the highest share of any development league in the world. McDavid\u2019s six career Art Ross Trophies are tied for the second most in NHL history, behind only Soo Greyhounds (OHL) grad Wayne Gretzky.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">With an NHL-best 53 goals in 2025-26, <\/span><b>MacKinnon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (Halifax Mooseheads \/ QMJHL) became the third different CHL alumnus in the last four years to win the Maurice \u201cRocket\u201d Richard Trophy. In his final season in 2022-23 with Sherbrooke, he recorded a career high 54 points and collected the Kevin Lowe Trophy as the Q&#8217;s best defensive defenceman.<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, the Gatineau, QC., native won gold with Canada at the 2023 World Juniors.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of his NHL debut, Hinds played 204 AHL games with the San Diego Gulls. The 18 nominees for the Marcel-Robert Trophy have done an outstanding job of balancing school and hockey. They are role models for current and future QMJHL players.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p data-end=\"791\" data-start=\"473\">\u201cAs chairman of the selection committee and a former recipient of the Marcel-Robert Trophy, I have great admiration for all student-athletes who excel both on the ice and in the classroom,\u201d added Charles-David Beaudoin, who won the award in 2012-2013. \u201cFrom the 18 nominees, we will soon announce the three finalists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1359\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\" data-start=\"793\">\u201cTeams submitted excellent applications, and selecting the three finalists will once again be very difficult this season,\u201d said QMJHL Director of the Education Program\u00a0Val\u00e9rie Monette. \u201cThe candidates demonstrated discipline, perseverance, and strong organizational skills in their studies. They were able to rely on outstanding support from teachers, our academic partners, as well as academic advisors, who greatly contributed to their success.
