Alexeyev’s 3 Points Lift Phoenix Over Tigres 3-1
After playing in a high scoring match in Victoriaville on Friday night. The preseason rematch Sunday in Sherbrooke had a much more defensive tone. Evan Fitzpatrick made 33 saves for Sherbrooke leading the team to a 3-1 victory, despite being out shot by the Tigres.
Victoriaville forward Maxime Comtois opened the scoring for the game late in the first period giving the Tigres a 1-0 lead. Just after the start of the second period Marek Zachar got the Phoenix on the board with the first goal of the game for the Birds, assisted by Yaroslav Alexeyev and Julien Pelletier. Later in the period the Phoenix took a 2-1 lead on a goal from Benjamin Tardif with the assists coming from Carl Neill and Alexeyev. Despite being out shot by the Tigres, the Phoenix were able to ensure their preseason win at home late in the third period when Alexeyev notched his third point of the afternoon. By scoring an empty net insurance goal the young Russian locked up the preseason victory for Sherbrooke.
Sherbrooke will next play their last preseason game at home against the defending President’s Cup Champion, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. The game at the Palais des Sports will be Saturday September 17th, 2016 with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m. in the afternoon.
