The Phoenix doesn’t give up but, it’s too little, too late !
The Phoenix attack was silent against the Armada for nearly 58 minutes before scoring two goals late in the period. Unfortunately for Stéphane Julien’s group, it was too little, too late ! The Armada walked away with a 3-2 victory.
For more than 2 periods, only one goal was allowed by either team, it belongs to Bruce Richardson’s team. Alexis Gendron (Miguël Tourigny) opened the scoring in the middle of the first period. Afterwards, the two teams managed to contain each other quite well. It is finally Mathias Lafferière (Christopher Merisier-Ortiz) who makes the red-light sparkle again. He gets one pass Samuel Hlavaj while Justin Gill is in the box. With 2:02 remaining in the 3rd, Israel Mianscum finally breaks the silence for the Birds. #24 took away any hope of a shutout for Olivier Adam by hitting the back of the net on the power play, as Stéphane Julien had called Samuel Hlavaj back to the bench in favor of a 6th attacker. 40 seconds later, Simon Pinard (Luke Henman and Benjamin Corbeil) cuts-short the celebration of the Phoenix by scoring his team’s third goal into an empty net. With just over 30 seconds left in the game, Joshua Roy allows his team to celebrate once More by narrowing the gap to just one goal again helped by Xavier Parent and Julien Anctil. Unfortunately, it is too little, too late: not enough time left for the Sherbrooke team to get the equalizer. The Armada walk away with the 3-2 victory.
