GAME DAY: Battle of the 55 rivals for the first time in 2020-2021
After suffering a 6-3 setback yesterday against the Voltigeurs, the Phoenix are back in action in the protected environment of the Center Marcel Dionne. This time, the Birds will face the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada at 7pm. The two teams did not come out victorious in their first meeting of the “bubble” in Drummondville.
This will be the third meeting of the season between the two teams. If you recall that after the opening weekend, the two teams were placed in isolation due to a COVID 19 outbreak. In both of those games, the Armada came away with the wins, the first time at 8-5 and the second at 4-2.
Bruce Richardson’s squad is having a good start to the season so far, appearing atop the QMJHL standings with a 9-2-0-0 record. Going into yesterday’s game against the Huskies, the Armada had suffered only one loss. Yesterday, they retired to the locker room after the first period leading 3-0. Things got tough after that, leading to a 6-5 loss. In the loss, Miguël Tourigny scored twice; Mathias Laferrière found the back of the net once and had two assists; Simon Pinard had 1 goal, 1 assist and Simon Lavigne recorded 2 assists.
For the Phoenix, Xavier Parent remains the team’s leading scorer since the first game of the season. He’s totaled 11 points in 8 games. Joshua Roy and Justin Gill also stand out. Joshua Roy got an assist yesterday and scored his first goal in a blue and white uniform in his first game with the team. Cumulated with his half-season with the Sea Dogs, he has 19 points in 16 games. Justin Gill, who got 2 assists yesterday, stands at 12 points in 15 games. Note that he was playing for the Charlottetown Islanders in 2020. Yesterday’s game was also his first game with the Phoenix.
