Bubble 3: Samuel Poulin and his team win !
The Phoenix faced a major challenge this evening at the Centre Gervais Auto. They faced the league’s #1 team: the Val-d’Or Foreurs. The odds were correct: The Foreurs walked away with a 6-2 victory.
In the first period, Alexandre Doucet (Nathan Légaré and Maxence Guénette) opened the scoring while Anthony Munroe-Boucher was in the box. The Foreurs bombarded Samuel Hlavaj with 20 shots in the first period and the netminder only gave up once.
Midway through the second period, Jérémy Michel (Nathan Légaré and Jakob Pelletier) doubled the lead of the Abitibian team. The Slovak goaltender has made 31 stops already. Daniel Renaud’s team has not said its last word.
To start the 3rd period, Jakob Pelletiertakes advantage of Samuel Hlavaj wandering a little too far from his net to make it 3-0. A little over a minute later, Alexandre Doucet (Justin Ducharme and Maxence Guénette) add one more with his team on the powerplay. Stéphane Jr Huard finally breaks the ice for the Phoenix. He scores his 3rd of the season assisted by Milo Roelens. The Foreurs get a penalty for having too many men on the ice. Stéphane Julien decides to recall his goalkeeper to the bench in favor of a 6th attacker. The strategy pays-off: Joshua Roy makes it 4-2 helped by Greg Kreutzer and Xavier Parent. Immediately after, Justin Robidas (Jakob Pelletier and Samuel Poulin) replies for Val-d’Or. Samuel Poulin gets his first point against his former team on the play. Marshall Lessard (Gabriel Villeneuve and Emile Lauzon) finally closes out the scoring.
