Fourth Edition of the Golf Classic: $25,000 Raised for the Sherbrooke Phœnix’s Education Fund
The fourth edition of the Sherbrooke Phœnix’s Rogers-Desjardins Golf Tournament was held today at the LongChamp Golf Club in Sherbrooke. 144 golfers took part in this event. Participating partners and golfers helped raise a total of $25,000 for the Sherbrooke Phœnix’s education fund.
“The Caisses Desjardins de Sherbrooke is committed to helping young athletes to developing values such as perseverance, the pursuit of excellence and team spirit. We are very proud to be involved in this Golf Tournament in order to contribute to the educational success of the Sherbrooke Phœnix players,” said Raymond Fillion, honorary co-chair of the Golf Tournament and president of the Caisse Desjardins du Mont-Bellevue de Sherbrooke.
In the evening, the Sherbrooke Phœnix organization took advantage of this opportunity to recognize the tremendous work of the Golf Tournament’s honorary co-chair and new captain, Carl Neill, who made his mark both on the ice and in the community last season. The veteran blueliner was the Sherbrooke Phœnix’s nominee last year for best community involvement in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). “I would like to thank the Sherbrooke Phœnix organization for the confidence they have shown in me by appointing me captain and I can’t wait to take up this new challenge with my teammates next year. I would also like to say thank you to all participants and sponsors of the Golf Tournament who helped us raise $25,000 for our education fund,” commented Carl Neill.
The new captain of the Sherbrooke Phœnix also introduced his teammates for the 2015-16 season to the participants. The defenseman, who will turn 19 in July, will be joined by two assistant captains, forward Daniel Audette and defenseman Jérémy Roy, with a third set to be appointed at the beginning of next season.
