The Olympiques claim a fifth straight victory
SHAWINIGAN – The Olympiques took advantage of their goalie’s stand Sunday afternoon at Shawinigan’s Centre Gervais Auto to extend their winning streak.
Benoit Desrosiers’ men wasted no time. In the 62nd second, Alexander Gaudio, once again, completed a TIC-TAC-TOE initiated by Jan Golicic to score his 11th of the season, a 6th in 4 games for the forward.
The Cataractes tried to respond on several occasions, but goaltender Zach Pelletier made a succession of saves to send his team into the locker room with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Minville’s dream season continues
The hosts were much more insistent in the second period. Daniel Renaud’s team worked hard to finally break through goalkeeper Pelletier thanks to a Jiri Klima goal.
But the Olympiques were once again able to take the lead when Jérémie Minville went 2-on-1 with Sander Wold. The forward chose an accurate shot to beat goalkeeper Hamel and give the visitors back the lead.
The pressure is on in 3rd
The third period was a hard-fought affair. With just over 5 minutes to go, Nathan Éthier gave the home fans something to cheer about when the forward deflected a shot from the slot on the power play to bring both teams back to square one.
With just under two minutes remaining in the game, Sander Wold passed the puck to Minville at the top of the circles. The forward unleashed a cannonball, giving the Olympiques the lead for good.
In the victory, goaltender Zach Pelletier stopped 23 of 25 attempts. Jérémie Minville reached the 25-goal plateau with two goals in the game.
The Olympiques’ next game is on Thursday night in Sherbrooke, when they take on the Phoenix. They’ll be back in front of their fans on Saturday, when the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will be at Center Slush Puppie from 4pm.
