SHA @ GAT: What You Need to Know
GATINEAU – The Gatineau Olympiques will host the Shawinigan Cataractes Thursday night at the Slush Puppie Centre.
Here’s what you need to know ahead of the game:
Already a Second Meeting This Season
Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Slush Puppie Centre, the two teams will face off for the second time this season, less than two weeks after their first meeting in Gatineau.
On September 20, the Olympiques delivered a strong performance in front of their home crowd, earning a 5-1 victory. Gatineau dominated the shot clock 47-19, including a commanding second period in which the Olympiques outshot the Cataractes 23-4.
Maxim Dubé led Gatineau’s offence with two goals, while Gabriel Séguin recorded a goal and an assist. Peter Legostaev and Louis-Étienne Halley also found the back of the net. The Olympiques held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes before extending their advantage to 4-0 after two periods.
The Cataractes will return to the Outaouais looking for a different result, while the Olympiques will try to earn their second victory of the season against Shawinigan.
Olympiques Come Close to Completing Comeback in Victoriaville
The Gatineau Olympiques mounted an impressive third-period comeback Sunday in Victoriaville but ultimately fell 7-5 to the Tigres at Colisée Desjardins.
Gatineau struck early. Simon-Xavier Cyr opened the scoring just 1:17 into the game, scoring his third goal of the season while shorthanded. The Olympiques carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The momentum shifted in the second period, however, as the Tigres exploded for five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Refusing to go quietly, the Olympiques mounted an impressive comeback in the third. Maxim Dubé, Alex Dagenais and Charles Pigeon scored in succession, with the final two goals coming just 13 seconds apart, pulling Gatineau to within one at 5-4.
Victoriaville managed to withstand Gatineau’s push. Egor Shilov restored the Tigres’ two-goal lead with just over three minutes remaining before Xavier Lebel scored into an empty net. Gabriel Séguin rounded out the scoring on the power play with less than a second remaining.
Despite the loss, the Olympiques outshot Victoriaville 39-28 and scored four times in the third period. Simon-Xavier Cyr finished the game with a goal and an assist.
The Olympiques will now return home Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Slush Puppie Centre, where they will host the Shawinigan Cataractes.
