Pavel Rosa becomes a Gatineau Olympiques immortal
GATINEAU – The Gatineau Olympiques organization announced Monday that Pavel Rosa’s number 55 jersey will be retired for the 2024-2025 season.
The ceremony will take place during the game against the Armada de Blainville Boisbriand on December 14, 2024, at 4 p.m. at the Slush Puppie Centre.
Originally from the Czech Republic, Pavel Rosa played for the Olympiques in the 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 seasons. He was one of the main architects of the 1997 President’s Cup and Memorial Cup victories.
The Czech was named offensive rookie of the year in the 1995-96 season, and won the QMJHL and Canadian Hockey League (CHL) scoring championships with 152 points in 1996-97.
His impressive total of 268 points in 129 regular-season games makes him the most prolific European player in the organization’s history.
He was also a 2nd-round pick (50th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1995 NHL draft. He collected 18 points in 36 games with the California outfit in 1998 and 2004.
“Pavel’s legacy with the organization is immense. There’s no doubt that he deserves this honor. He meets all the criteria to receive the title of immortal.” – Daniel Brunet, Director of Operations and Sales
“After discussing this at length, we agreed that Pavel Rosa was a logical candidate for several reasons, especially as he will become the first European player to have his number retired by the Olympics.” Olivier Beauregard, Director of Communications and Marketing.
The Gatineau Olympiques organization will unveil details of the December 14, 2024 event in the coming weeks.
