GAT @ VDO: What You Need to Know
GATINEAU – The Olympiques are heading to Abitibi for a pair of weekend matchups against the Val-d’Or Foreurs, Saturday and Sunday at the Centre Agnico Eagle.
Here’s what you need to know ahead of the two games:
Two games in less than 24 hours in Val-d’Or
The Olympiques continue their schedule on the road with back-to-back games against the Foreurs. The first meeting is set for Saturday, October 3 at 4 p.m., before the two teams meet again the following day, Sunday, October 4 at 3 p.m., once again at the Centre Agnico Eagle.
These will be the first regular-season meetings between Gatineau and Val-d’Or this season. The two teams did, however, face each other twice during the preseason, including a matchup at the Centre Agnico Eagle on August 28.
The weekend series will also feature two teams off to strong starts in the Western Conference. Heading into the weekend, the Foreurs hold a 3-0-1-0 record with seven points, while the Olympiques sit at 3-1-1-0 with seven points following Thursday night’s victory.
A strong start for the Foreurs
Val-d’Or has opened its season on a strong note. The Foreurs won their first three games of the campaign before suffering their first loss in overtime.
The two weekend matchups will therefore provide the Olympiques with a solid test against a team that has quickly established itself among the Western Conference’s early contenders.
A spectacular comeback before hitting the road
The Olympiques will head to Abitibi with momentum on their side after earning a 3-2 overtime victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes on Thursday night at the Centre Slush Puppie.
Trailing 2-0 after 40 minutes, Gatineau completely turned things around in the third period, scoring twice to force overtime.
Maxim Dubé completed the comeback in the extra frame, finding the back of the net to give the Olympiques their third victory of the young season. Gatineau finished the night with a 41-26 advantage in shots on goal.
The win allowed the Olympiques to add two more points to the standings before hitting the road for a demanding weekend doubleheader against the Foreurs.
Both games will be available on FloHockey, while fans can also follow the action on 104.7 FM.
