Game Recap – March 20th
After 13 days off, the Olympiques were back on the ice to play hockey. Their next six-game sequence will be played in Drummondville and will face them four games while Blainville-Boisbriand Armada are their first opponent.
Having played the day before, the Armada had better pace in the opening minutes and were first to score with just 5:20 in the period. After his blocked pass, Alexis Gendron saw the puck coming directly on his stick and then deposited it an almost empty net.
Blainville-Boisbriand continued to dominate the first period, taking advantage of two power plays and a penalty shot, but Rémi Poirier remained strong while blocking 15 shots.
2nd period
Both teams were playing a tight game but the Olympiques didn’t miss an opportunity handed to them. With a three on two play, Manix Landry gave the puck to Andrew Coxdhead close to the net who missed his shot but immediately jumped on the return to tie the game.
They were both defending their respective territories really well before the attack broke loose. With just over six minutes to go, Olivier Boutin took advantage of the space given to him in the attack zone and, with a wrist shot in the top of the net, made it 2-1 for the Olympiques.
Shortly afterwards, Benjamin Corbeil who was on a breakaway received a perfect lob from Blake Richardson to draw the tie. With less then a minute of play in the period, Miguel Tourigny scored for the Armada making it 3-2.
3rd period
As they did in the first period, the Armada scored quickly. Charles Boutin in front of the net deflected Zachary Roy’s shot to double his team’s lead.
The Olympiques responded quickly with a goal after a great exchange between Pier-Olivier Roy, Zach Dean and Metis Roelens. That goal allowed Gatineau to reduce the opponent’s lead by one.
The game then escalated in intensity and, on a power play late in the third period, Zach Dean took advantage of a great play from Tristan Luneau with a backhand shot to beat goaltender Charles-Édward Gravel. The game was tied at 4-4.
Overtime
Metis Roelens missed a good chance to score but the Olympiques returned on the attack. Manix Landry passed everyone on the ice before beating goalkeeper Gravel to give Gatineau the victory!
