Game Recap – April 1st 2021
This was important game in Sherbrooke’s protected environment for the Gatineau Olympiques and the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada who were looking to end the season on a positive note. Both teams will be playing two games in less than 24 hours, following the preventive withdrawal of the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
The Olympiques dominated the start of the first period with better scoring chances but were unable to capitalize. Emerik Despatie, Louis Robitaille’s trusted goalkeeper, was very solid and saved the draw against a player on a breakaway.
A few minutes later, on another breakaway, Benjamin Corbeil managed to outsmart Despatie who had however made the first stop. Both teams retreated to their locker rooms with the score of 1-0 for the Armada.
2nd period
Similar to the first period, the Olympiques started the period on fire. They applied lots of pressure on the Armada goalkeeper who had to go above and beyond to make saves and keep his team in the game.
Again, Blainville-Boisbriand scored first in the second period, their captain Luke Henman scoring on the power play.
The period ended with the Armada ahead with a 2-goal lead.
3rd period
The Gatineau players started the third period in the same manner as the other two periods by applying lots of pressure in the attack zone. On an identical scenario as the first two periods, the locals scored first. A perfect shot from Miguel Tourigny made it 3-1 for Blainville-Boisbriand.
Despite a 3 goal deficit, the Olympiques were still in the game thanks to the good work of Emerik Despatie who was making his first start since March 7th in Gatineau.
The end of the third period was incredible with 3 goals scored in less than 5 minutes. Coxhead and Roelens scored for the Olympiques and Laferrière and Pinard (in an empty net) added to the Armada’s lead.
It was too little, too late for our Olympiques who lost by 3 goals.
Final score: 5-2
