Game Recap – May 1st, 2021
Today’s game was the third in this first round series between the Olympiques and the Armada. Having seen the Armada level the series to 1-1 in the last game, Louis Robitaille’s men wanted to regain the lead.
There were no changes in Louis Robitaille’s roster except that Rémi Poirier was back in front of his net.
1st period
The first period was played at a brisk pace. There were several excellent scoring chances from both teams. However, no shots were recorded until the 5th minute of play. It was the Olympiques who threatened around Gravel’s net and who were first to shoot on net.
By applying lots of pressure, the Olympiques scoring chances increased considerably. Métis Roelens took advantage of a puck left alone in front of Gravel’s net, having himself pushed the puck in front of it, and scored a great goal. It was 1-0 for Gatineau.
There wasn’t anything really notable in this period but it was an extremely physical and tight defensive game, playoff hockey. Gatineau retreated to their locker room still leading by one goal.
2nd period
The second period started at a disadvantage for the Olympiques, having to finish off a late-first period penalty. The defensive unit did wonderfully.
A few minutes later, the Olympiques had the advantage of a man. After a saved shot by the goaltender, the puck was directed into the defensive territory and the Armada leveled the score 1-1.
Less than two minutes later, the defensemen managed to control the puck and emerged victorious from a scrummage in the corner. Coxhead and Landry traded the puck in neutral territory, Coxhead made a nice feint and outsmarted the goaltender Gravel. The Olympiques were ahead 2-1.
After an exchange of scoring chances, it was finally the Armada who leveled the score a second time. The game was now 2-2 for the opposing team.
A bad penalty given by a referee to an Olympiques player gave the Armada a power play at the end of the period. Richardson didn’t miss the opportunity and gave Blainville-Boisbriand the lead with a score of 3-2.
3rd period
Louis Robitaille’s men had 20 minutes to tie the game. They got a golden chance to do so as an Armada player was ousted with 5 minutes played in the third period. Despite some chances to throw at the net, the puck never crossed the goal line. It was still 3-2 for the Armada with 12:00 left in the game.
Although the Olympiques controlled the play in this period, the Armada once again took advantage of their chances and scored. Blainville-Boisbriand were ahead 4-2.
On the power play Gatineau tried everything they could to outsmart goaltender Gravel but just couldn’t do it. The play moved into the defensive zone and the Armada once again didn’t miss the opportunity and scored an unanswered 4th goal to make it 5-2.
Final score : 5-2 for the Armada.
The next match in this first round series will be played Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
