A desire to create a doubt
SHERBROOKE – The Olympiques will be at the Palais des Sports de Sherbrooke tonight (Thursday) to take on the Phoenix at 7pm.
The duel is sure to be a hard-fought one, with the Gatineau team looking to extend its winning streak to 6 games, while the Phoenix will be looking to build on its three-game winning streak.
The Olympiques’ winning streak didn’t just happen, according to captain Charles Boutin. It’s the result of hard work, he says.
“Teams like ours, we have to work harder than the other team every game if we want to be successful. Right now, everyone’s pushing in the same direction during games, but also during training sessions. We have to keep up this work ethic,” he says.
In an interview this week, head coach Benoit Desrosiers mentioned that he wants his players to maintain the desire to sow doubt.
“We’re going to try to keep improving and create doubts. That’s the objective, to create doubts. After that, when we know if we’ve made the playoffs, we’ll embrace the challenge,” explains the head coach.
The arrival of new players has certainly contributed to the Olympiques’ recent success. Benoit Desrosiers was delighted with the contribution of his new players.
“The new players brought us a certain stability. They saw the work ethic of our guys, the way we approached our games, and they got on board. The result is a team that competes even harder,” he points out.
Gauthier happy in Gatineau
Mathis Gauthier, who was acquired in a transaction on January 2, seems to be happy in the Outaouais region. The 20-year-old veteran collected 10 points (2 goals and 8 assists) in five games with the Olympiques. He didn’t expect the team to be on a winning streak so quickly.
“I won’t lie to you, I didn’t expect us to win five in a row, but with the work we do here every day and the time we put in on and off the ice, I think it’s deserved,” admits the defenseman in an interview with the daily Le Droit.
Tonight’s game is the first of three this week. The Olympiques will reconnect with their fans on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Slush Puppie Centre, before taking on the Armada at Blainville Boisbriand on Sunday afternoon.
