[{"id":57410,"date":"2026-06-05T22:18:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T01:18:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/?p=57410"},"modified":"2026-06-06T09:31:46","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T12:31:46","slug":"moose-cap-eventful-1st-round-by-selecting-emrik-menard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/article\/moose-cap-eventful-1st-round-by-selecting-emrik-menard","title":{"rendered":"Moose cap eventful 1st Round by selecting Emrik M\u00e9nard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2026-06-05<\/p>\n<p>The Mooseheads kicked off the QMJHL Entry Draft with plenty of excitement on Friday night when they made the first trade of the night by sending the third overall pick to Blainville-Boisbriand as part of a package that <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/article\/mooseheads-acquire-golden-knights-prospect-mateo-nobert\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">landed star forward Mateo Nobert<\/span><\/a> while Amelio Santini and Nick Cirka also went to the Armada.<\/p>\n<p>General Manager Cam Russell followed that move up by heading to the stage with the Mooseheads front office and Herd alum Justin Barron who announced Forward Emrik M\u00e9nard as the seventh overall pick.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e9nard is known as a hard-working player with an offensive flare. He scored 70 points in 30 games two seasons ago in U15 with the Cascades Elites but was limited to just a handful of games in 2025-26 due to an injury. He suited up with the Connecticut Rangers south of the border where he scored eight goals and eight assists for 16 points in six games. He also played a pair of games for the U16 Woodbridge Wolfpack.<\/p>\n<p>The Eliteprospects.com scouting report described him as a player who\u00a0works at a very high pace and is able to mix in some skill along with his advanced playmaking ability. He was the 85th overall pick in last June&#8217;s NHL Entry Draft by the Golden Knights. The Beaconsfield, QC native scored 78 points last season to help the Armada reach the semi-finals in the Gilles-Courteau Trophy Playoffs. He has tallied 171 points in 181 career games over three seasons after the Armada took him third overall in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The playmaking forward shoot left and can play the centre position as well as on the wing. He is 6-feet-tall and weighs 178 pounds. His addition signifies that Halifax is hoping to become a true contender for the 2026-27 season as he joins a potent top-six forward group that already includes Shawn Carrier, Oleg Kulebiakin, Quinn Kennedy and others.<\/p>\n<p>Halifax also owns the seventh overall pick in Friday&#8217;s opening round of the draft.<\/p>\n<p>The QMJHL Entry Draft is being held in Halifax for the first time ever this weekend with Rounds 2-12 continuing on Saturday at 10am. Carter is at his best when he moves his feet and plays with speed, becoming a very tough player to defend.<\/p>\n<p>As he continues to grow and add some size, he will hopefully add a more physical element to his game. The Herd slipped one spot in the draft lottery on Tuesday night in Montreal which was won by the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.<\/p>\n<p>The Moose were in the lottery thanks to acquiring the first round pick from the Rimouski Oceanic in the Mathieu Cataford trade in June of 2024. The Mooseheads will feature prominently in the draft to be held in Halifax for the very first time on June 5-6 at Scotiabank Centre. Not only do the Herd own the third overall selection, but the team will also pick seventh overall. The Russian rookie was the leading scorer for the Mooseheads in 2025-26 with 73 points in 64 games played. His 44 assists were the most for Halifax while he placed third in goals with 29. Kulebiakin was the ninth overall pick by the Mooseheads in the 2025 CHL Import Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Next in the rankings for the Herd is defenceman <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/players\/20246\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Eddy Doyle<\/span><\/a> coming in as the <strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">108th<\/span><\/strong> ranked North American Skater. The native of Tignish, PE has a November 2007 birthdate which pushed his draft eligibility to 2026. He is a big body at 6-foot-3 and 193 pounds and set career high in points with 18 and games played with 59. Doyle was drafted in the fourth round of the 2023 QMJHL Entry Draft by Halifax.<\/p>\n<p>Forward <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/players\/21289\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Danny Walters<\/span><\/a> took a significant jump in from 147th in January to the <strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">114th<\/span><\/strong> spot in the Final Rankings. The physical forward who was born and raised in Halifax, NS played a significant role on the team in his second QMJHL season. He set career highs with 30 points, 15 goals and 15 assists and was third in the league with 110 penalty minutes. Walters was a first round selection (11th overall) by the Mooseheads in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the list of ranked players from the Mooseheads is forward <a href=\"https:\/\/chl.ca\/lhjmq-mooseheads\/players\/20169\/\"><span style=\"color: #008000\">Shawn Carrier<\/span><\/a> who comes in at <strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">178th<\/span><\/strong> on the list. The energetic and creative player was passed over in his first year of eligibility in 2025 mainly due to his smaller stature at 5-foot-10, but his no-fear style of play, paired with his elite scoring talent opened the eyes of many NHL scouts during the recently finished season. Carrier was second on the team in points with 65 while scoring a team-leading 37 goals and adding 28 assists. He was acquired by Halifax in a trade that sent Markus Vidicek to Moncton prior to the 2024-25 season. He was originally drafted sixth overall by the Wildcats in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The final ran<span class=\"subscription-tag\">kings<\/span> feature the top 224 skaters and 37 goaltenders in North America as well as the top 147 skaters and 23 goaltenders internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Currently in its 51st year of operation, NHL <span class=\"subscription-tag\">Central Scouting<\/span>\u00a0provides evaluation and scouting of\u00a0<span class=\"subscription-tag\">draft<\/span>-eligible players to NHL member clubs.
