Peitzsche’s OT goal hands Halifax 4-3 preseason win vs Charlottetown
2023-09-10
Your Halifax Mooseheads scored a 4-3 overtime preseason win over the Charlottetown Islanders in North Rustico, PE on Saturday night. Forward Reece Peitzsche cashed in the game-winner 3:48 into the extra period following a great set-up by defenceman Brady Schultz to give the Herd their first victory in four preseason outings.
The Moose iced a much more veteran lineup than the previous three games with just veterans Jordan Dumais, Jake Furlong and Dylan MacKinnon sitting out while defenceman Eddy Doyle was the only call-up to suit up.
Jack Milner played the entire game between the pipes and made 28 saves to earn the win. The Mooseheads waited until the third period to do the bulk of their scoring as Liam Kilfoil’s shorthanded tally at the 2:02 mark sparked a momentum shift. Rookie Antoine Fontaine then scored back-to-back goals to put Halifax ahead 3-1. Charlottetown chipped away and found the equalizer from Kevin Walker with 65 seconds remaining in regulation.
The clubs enjoyed some back-and-forth action for most of the OT period before Peitzsche ended things when he buried his chance past goalie Aksels Ozuls. The second-year forward from Beaver Bank, NS finished with two points after assisting on Fontaine’s first goal of the night. Cade Moser, Jake Todd, Markus Vidicek and Schultz had the other assists in the win. Islanders goals came from Walker, Lucas Romeo and Carl-Etienne Michel.
Next up for the Mooseheads in a Sunday afternoon battle with the Cape Breton Eagles at 4pm at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth. A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door while fans can also watch live on the official Halifax Mooseheads YouTube Channel.
