Scintillating Sunday as Moose grab OT win
2026-03-01
Shawn Carrier capped off an exciting afternoon in Halifax when he slid in the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Mooseheads a 5-4 victory over the visiting Quebec Remparts at Scotiabank Centre.
More than 10,000 fans were treated to a good one between two classic rivals as the Herd officially clinched a berth in the QMJHL playoffs with the two points.
Halifax’s Quinn Kennedy enjoyed a two-goal game to earn the first star, while Liam Kilfoil and Danny Walters also had big third period tallies as part of a rally that saw the Moose fight back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead.
Quebec forced overtime when Nikita Ocharov struck on the power play to tie it at 4-4 but Carrier didn’t waste much time in the extra frame by skating it up the ice before slickly tucking in a back-hander through the five-hole just 54 seconds into OT.

Halifax was wearing special jerseys for the occasion as part of the Real Atlantic Superstore CHL Jersey Contest. Remy Maldre, a young hockey player with the Halifax Hawks U11 program had his design chosen as the winner which featured a Moose standing on two legs and eating a hockey stick. The jerseys are now being auctioned online at ElevateAuctions.com with 100% of the proceeds going to President’s Choice Children’s Charity.
Kennedy got the scoring started in the game when he struck near the midway point of the opening period with his 25th goal of the season. The contest quickly turned physical as the Eric Veilleux-led Remparts embodied the style that their head coach has been known for over the years.
Quebec controlled much of the second period of play with three goals from Antoine Dorion, Thomas Charbonneau and Egan Beveridge as the visitors took a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes. Things got a little hairy 6:36 into the period when Ryan Howard accelerated and ran over goalie Owen Bresson behind the Mooseheads net, setting off a flurry of extra-curriculars including Lincoln Waugh and Charlie Morrison getting fighting and aggressor penalties.
The third period was a different story for the Mooseheads as they came out rejuvenated and went on the offensive almost from the drop of the puck. Liam Kilfoil was the first to cash in as the home squad started chipping away at the deficit. The third-year forward crashed the net the lifted one up and over goalie Benjamin Lelievre at the 4:13 mark to cut the Remparts lead to 3-2. Then it was Kennedy’s turn as he whipped one in from the left circle to bury his second of the day to tie the game. Danny Walters kept the onslaught coming when he scored another one in a mad scramble in front of Lelievre less than a minute after Kennedy’s tying goal and the Herd came away with a 4-3 advantage to really get the crowd jumping at Scotiabank Centre. Ovcharov slid in a power play goal on the short side that Bresson would like to have back at the 10:50 mark to tie the game again and complete the regulation scoring.
With the win, the Mooseheads solidified their spot in the upcoming QMJHL playoffs which will begin on the road for the Herd.
