On the road for three this weekend
2024-09-26
The Halifax Mooseheads are set to embark on a three-game road trip that will see stops in Cape Breton, Moncton and Charlottetown this weekend.
The Herd got off to a perfect 2-0 start to the season with thrilling victories over the Islanders and Sea Dogs last weekend and will look to build on that early success before returning to Halifax for Home Opening Weekend against Quebec and Rimouski on Friday, October 4th at 7pm and Sunday, October 6th at 3pm.
Mooseheads at Eagles – Friday 7pm
The season-opening road trip continues this Friday night at 7pm in Sydney, where the Moose will battle the Eagles at Centre 200. Cape Breton, a team expected to contend for the division title, suffered back-to-back losses in Acadie-Bathurst. The Eagles were without starting goalie Jakub Milota, star defenceman Tomas Lavoie and high-scoring forward Cam Squires who were all away attending their respective NHL camps. The game marks the first-of-eight meetings between the provincial rivals this season. The Mooseheads will make their way to Cape Breton a day early, leaving Thursday afternoon following practice.
Mooseheads at Wildcats – Sunday 3pm
Another big test for the Mooseheads is coming up on Sunday when they visit the Moncton Wildcats who enter the season as the favourites to win the division and potentially the Gilles Courteau Trophy. The Cats added some key players to their already potent lineup during the offseason including Markus Vidicek and Dylan MacKinnon from the Herd. Another player to watch for is Slovakian import forward Juraj Pekarcik. The 19-year-old was the second overall pick in the 2023 CHL Import Draft by Acadie-Bathurst but did not report to the Titan. The cats flipped a third round pick to Bathurst to acquire the offensively talented Pekarcik in August in a move that could pay major dividends.
Mooseheads at Islanders – Monday 2pm
The busy weekend will wrap up with another matinee in Charlottetown against the Islanders on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Halifax rallied for a 2-1 shootout win at the Eastlink Centre last week in the season opener as Lou Levesque scored the tying goal late in regulation and Logan Crosby netted the only goal of a marathon shootout for the victory. Mathis Rousseau had a strong game with 26 saves to earn the second star. Charlottetown remains winless through two games after falling 6-3 against the Wildcats last Sunday.
