The 2026 Training Camp presented by ADL continues Monday with Game 2 of the Cusson Cup at 3:45 p.m. at Simmons Sports Centre. Game 3 will take place Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

First-round CHL Import selection Artyom Mate made his QMJHL debut, while Caleb Pelletier got the start in goal for the Islanders. Thomas Bedard was between the pipes for the Regiment.

Camp invite Teddy Farren wasted no time putting the Islanders on the board, beating Bedard just 13 seconds into the game. Oleksii Kryvonos and Justin Hanscombe picked up the assists.

Bedard faced the majority of the action in the opening frame, turning aside three quality scoring chances before Justyce Johnson doubled the Islanders’ lead with his second goal of the preseason.

Joey St. Laurent got the Regiment on the board just seven seconds into the second period, cutting the Islanders’ lead to 2-1.

Caleb Pelletier stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced before swapping spots with Charles Deragon. Thomas Bedard was also replaced by Dace Gruchy in the Regiment net.

The Regiment continued to apply pressure, with Ty Hymovitz, Joey St. Laurent and Colin Walsh scoring three straight goals against Deragon to give Newfoundland a 4-2 lead at the halfway point of the period.

Declan MacLaughlan was awarded a penalty shot later in the frame, but Gruchy turned him aside to preserve the Regiment’s two-goal advantage.

Newfoundland controlled much of the play in the second period and carried a 20-19 edge in shots into the second intermission.

Gianfranco D’Agata brought the Islanders back within a goal five minutes into the third period, cutting the Regiment’s lead to 4-3. Nathan Frost and Bodan McFadden picked up assists on the scoring play.

The Regiment quickly stalled the Islanders’ momentum, with John McDonough beating Deragon through the five-hole to restore Newfoundland’s two-goal advantage.

Sherwood, PEI native Parker MacDonald collected his own rebound and pulled the Islanders back within a goal at the 7:38 mark. Frost picked up his second assist of the game and fourth point of the preseason.

Charlottetown finished the game with a 30-28 advantage in shots.

The Islanders continue their preseason schedule Wednesday in Halifax against the Mooseheads before returning home Saturday, August 29 at 4 p.m. at Simmons Sports Centre.

2026 fourth-round pick Colby O’Shaughnessy got the start in goal for the Islanders, while Will Cole was between the pipes for Moncton.

The Islanders wasted little time getting on the board, as Oshawa, Ontario native Hudson Armstrong opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the game. Benjamin Antonio Masi and Nathan Frost picked up the assists on the early goal.

The Wildcats responded later in the period, with Noah Survilas converting on a rebound to tie the game after a successful Moncton power play.

The Islanders regained the lead at 6:42 when Mason Wholders found KJ Eccellson, who broke through two Wildcats defenders before scoring on a partial break.

Justin Hanscombe and Nathan Frost would add goals later in the opening frame, giving Charlottetown a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes.

The Islanders continued to control the play in the second period, beginning the frame with a power play after Moncton’s Evan Foiles was assessed a minor penalty for kneeing.

Hudson Armstrong capitalized on the man advantage at the 3:42 mark, scoring his second goal of the afternoon. Armstrong finished off a fantastic passing play from Aslan Tremblay and Benedetto-Antonio Masi to extend the Islanders’ lead.

At the midway point of the period, the Islanders made a change in goal, with Caleb Pelletier entering the game in relief of Colby O’Shaughnessy, who stopped four of the five shots he faced.

Benedetto-Antonio Masi continued his strong showing in the third period, extending the Islanders’ lead with an early goal.

The Wildcats responded at the 8:20 mark when Evan Foiles beat Caleb Pelletier over the shoulder to make it a 6-2 game.

The Islanders added two more late in the third, with Justyce Johnson and Alex Duguay-Caron finding the back of the net to secure an 8-2 victory.

Pelletier turned aside five of the six shots he faced in relief.

Anthony brings six seasons of QMJHL coaching experience to Charlottetown and has built a strong reputation for player development, defensive structure, and special teams.

Anthony joins Head Coach John Mitchell’s staff as the Islanders continue preparations for the upcoming season.
