Islanders take another win on the road in Baie-Comeau
Baie-Comeau, QE — It was a brisk fall night in Baie-Comeau as the Islanders took on the Dakkar in their 3rd road game of the week. Baie-Comeau was still hunting for their first points of the season, and so far, the Isles had points in both road games, stealing one in an overtime loss against Victoriaville, and securing a win in Chicoutimi against the 2025-25 QMJHL Champs.
After his first rest of the season in Chicoutimi, Donald Hickey made his return in the crease only facing eight in the first period.
A power play opportunity lead the Islanders for their first goal of the evening with a second chance point from Nolan Duskocy tipping it in after Owen Conrad made an attempt from the blue line. The first consisted of limited penalties compared to other games the Isles have participated in. Matt Buttler would cap of the first twenty with a quick sniper past number 32, Mathias Hernandez. Hickey wasn’t challenged too much, making a couple pad saves to keep the Islanders ahead. The period would end 2-0.
Action packed second period brought goals for both parties. Captain Conrad got himself on the board for the second game in a row with a slapper from the circle, giving Hernandez no time to process. The Drakkar were good at responding, bouncing back quickly. Liam Armit was left alone in front of the Islanders net with no one to help Hickey putting the home team just one point behind. It was a scoring fiesta at Centre Sportif Alcoa, with two more Islanders goals coming in hot. Shields and Boudreau, who have both been reliable scorers for Charlottetown, put daggers in the back of the net. Other than the goal scoring, the period flew by. Islanders collected a few more penalties with Cameron Holyoke, Rowan Walsh, and William Shields making it into the sin bin, but the Drakkar couldn’t capitalize on any of their power play opportunities. 5-2 headed into the third.
Baie-Comeau started the third physically to try to climb their way out of a deficit and make the Islanders work to keep their lead. Unfortunately for the Drakkar, the lead grew. KJ Eccleston needed to keep his point streak alive securing his fourth point in the last four games. Baie-Comeau snuck on last goal in, but it wouldn’t be enough to catch the visiting team. A relatively light game for the Islanders, which was much needed after two competitive games prior. The finally score would be 6-3.
The Islanders finally get a day off Saturday. Their next game is Sunday when they’re in Rimouski, completing their 4 games in a 5 day stretch. Their next home game isn’t until October 9th when they host Drummondville.
