Islanders Name Matt Anthony Assistant Coach
The Charlottetown Islanders are pleased to announce the addition of Matthew Anthony as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2026-27 QMJHL season.
Anthony brings six seasons of QMJHL coaching experience to Charlottetown and has built a strong reputation for player development, defensive structure, and special teams.
“We’re very excited to welcome Matthew Anthony to the Charlottetown Islanders coaching staff,” said Islanders President and General Manager Scott Harris. “Matt brings an outstanding combination of coaching experience and a strong understanding of the QMJHL, which will be invaluable to our players and our organization.
Most recently, Anthony served as an Assistant Coach with Omskie Krylia of the All-Russian Hockey League (VHL).
“He has established an excellent track record in player development and has demonstrated tremendous success behind the bench, particularly in leading high-performing penalty kill units. Throughout our process, Matt received exceptional references and is highly respected by industry professionals.
“Beyond his coaching abilities, he’s a tremendous person who will make a positive impact on both our coaching staff and our locker room. We’re thrilled to add Matt to our organization and look forward to seeing the impact he’ll have as we continue building our staff and organization.”
Anthony joins Head Coach John Mitchell’s staff as the Islanders continue preparations for the upcoming season.
“We are thrilled to welcome Matt Anthony to Charlottetown,” said Mitchell. “As I begin my first season in the QMJHL, it was important to build a coaching staff with strong experience, outstanding people, and a shared commitment to developing our players.
“Matt brings six seasons of coaching experience in this league and has earned an excellent reputation as a sharp defensive mind and for player development and mentorship. He is a proud Maritimer who understands the demands of the QMJHL, and I am incredibly excited to work alongside both Matt and Kevin as we build a winning culture that our Island fans can be proud of.”
