C’est ce samedi en d\u00e9but de soir\u00e9e que les Foreurs entamaient leur calendrier r\u00e9gulier de la saison 2023-2024. Pour l’occasion, les Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda \u00e9taient en ville, offrant d\u00e9j\u00e0 aux partisans une premi\u00e8re Guerre de la 117 cette saison. Mathis Lussier obtenait le d\u00e9part pour le Vert et Or, faisant face au r\u00e9cent vainqueur de la Coupe Memorial William Rousseau chez les visiteurs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

T\u00f4t dans le match, les Foreurs ont profit\u00e9 d’une sortie de zone hasardeuse des Huskies pour provoquer un revirement et ouvrir la marque. C’est Alexandre Guy qui a fait scintiller la lumi\u00e8re rouge. Sur la s\u00e9quence, Philippe Veilleux, choix de 1er tour au dernier rep\u00eachage, a r\u00e9colt\u00e9 son premier point en carri\u00e8re dans la LHJMQ. Rapidement, Rouyn-Noranda a toutefois cr\u00e9\u00e9 l’\u00e9galit\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Bill Zonon.<\/p>\n

Quelques minutes plus tard, un tir de Nathan Baril, qui semblait tout \u00e0 fait anodin, s’est fray\u00e9 un chemin pour d\u00e9jouer Rousseau entre les jambi\u00e8res. Encore une fois, les Huskies ont pratiquement imm\u00e9diatement ramen\u00e9 tout le monde \u00e0 la case d\u00e9part en faisant 2-2. Il s’agissait du premier but de l’attaquant Antonin Verreault avec l’\u00e9quipe.<\/p>\n

Alexander Gaudio a ensuite imit\u00e9 Verreault, marquant son premier filet dans l’uniforme vert et or pour redonner les devants aux locaux. Mais, comme le voulait la tradition depuis le d\u00e9but du match, la Meute n’a eu besoin que d’une vingtaine de secondes pour cr\u00e9er l’\u00e9galit\u00e9 \u00e0 nouveau, cette fois par l’entremise de Daniil Bourash. 3-3 au tableau apr\u00e8s 20 minutes bien remplies de jeu robuste.<\/p>\n

Alors que le jeu s’est quelque peu ferm\u00e9 en deuxi\u00e8me, les Huskies ont pris les devants pour la premi\u00e8re fois du match avec environ huit minutes \u00e0 faire \u00e0 l’engagement. C’est Louis-Philippe Fontaine qui a marqu\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un tir parfait dans la partie sup\u00e9rieure. Ensuite au tour du Vert et Or de ramener tout le monde \u00e0 l’\u00e9galit\u00e9, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l’attaquant Alexis Tanguay qui a profit\u00e9 d’un beau travail du jeune Alix Durocher. Ce dernier a du coup mis la main sur son premier point en carri\u00e8re dans la LHJMQ.<\/p>\n

Chaque formation a obtenu des bonnes chances de marquer en troisi\u00e8me, sans toutefois \u00eatre en mesure de capitaliser. Les gardiens Lussier et Rousseau ont \u00e9t\u00e9 solides devant leur filet respectif, particuli\u00e8rement le gardien des Huskies qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 davantage occup\u00e9 lors du troisi\u00e8me tiers. 4-4 apr\u00e8s les 60 minutes de jeu r\u00e9glementaire<\/p>\n

Direction prolongation! Les Huskies ont offert une grosse opportunit\u00e9 aux Foreurs en \u00e9tant chass\u00e9s pour avoir eu trop de joueurs sur la patinoire avec 1:22 \u00e0 faire. Le Tch\u00e8que Samuel Fiala en a profit\u00e9 pour d\u00e9cocher tout un tir et d\u00e9jouer le gardien Rousseau, donnant la victoire aux Foreurs avec son premier dans la LHJMQ, alors qu’il ne restait que quelques secondes \u00e0 \u00e9couler! Marque finale : 5-4 Val-d’Or!<\/p>\n

Montreal, QC – The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the finalists for the Humanitarian of the Year award, which recognizes a player’s outstanding contribution to the well-being of his community.<\/p>\n

This year’s finalists are\u00a0Kaylen Gauthier<\/a>\u00a0of the Sherbrooke Ph\u0153nix,\u00a0Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Potvin<\/a>\u00a0of the Val-d’Or Foreurs, and\u00a0Cam Squires<\/a>\u00a0of the Cape Breton Eagles.<\/p>\n

As captain of the Ph\u0153nix, Gauthier has shown exceptional leadership both on and off the ice. The 21-year-old from Drummondville, QC has participated in various community initiatives, including distributing school supplies to underprivileged families and creating the\u00a0Captain\u2019s Game<\/em>, which allowed less fortunate families to attend major junior hockey events together. Gauthier has also visited schools, practiced with minor hockey teams, and engaged with fans through the team\u2019s skating activities.<\/p>\n

Potvin, a native of Val-d’Or, has demonstrated a keen understanding of the importance of getting involved in his own community. He has participated in various charity events, such as the\u00a0Media’s Big Drive<\/em>\u00a0to raise funds for local organizations, and has regularly engaged with both fans and minor hockey teams throughout the season. What impressed the selection committee the most was his initiative to participate in the\u00a0CIBC Run for the Cure<\/em>\u00a0with his teammates after finding out that his aunt had been diagnosed with cancer. Potvin is now involved with a committee dedicated to the Canadian Cancer Society.<\/p>\n

Squires, a sophomore with the Cape Breton Eagles, has not only put up impressive numbers on the ice this season but has also made a significant impact in his community. He selected the\u00a0Boys & Girls Club<\/em>\u00a0of Cape Breton as his charity of choice and thus created the\u00a0Squires Squad<\/em>, which donated four season tickets to the youth-oriented, non-profit charity to allow families to attend Eagles games. Squires has also volunteered his time at the club to provide mentorship, talk with the kids about their lives and goals, and even organized a ball hockey tournament to engage the youth.<\/p>\n

Montr\u00e9al, QC\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 Supported by professionals from MNP, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) is launching its recruitment campaign to find the best candidate to replace Mr. Gilles Courteau as League Commissioner. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit\u00a0the job offer page<\/a>\u00a0to learn more about the job requirements.<\/p>\n

A structured and rigorous process<\/strong><\/p>\n

Submitting applications is one of many steps in this process. The selection committee will be chaired by Mr. Richard L\u00e9tourneau, current President of the QMJHL’s Members’ Assembly. The QMJHL plans to announce the name of Mr. Courteau\u2019s successor at the end of May 2023.<\/p>\n

Take note that this recruitment campaign is being launched following Gilles Courteau\u2019s announcement on December 16, confirming his retirement after 47 years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including 37 years as its Commissioner.<\/p>\n

Handing over the torch and keeping it burning\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Courteau will remain in office for the first six months of the 2023-2024 fiscal year before handing over the reins to his successor, whom he will support in his new role until May 31, 2024.<\/p>\n

“I am very proud of the evolution of the League and how it has built a strong reputation over the years. All of this was made possible through teamwork and everyone\u2019s commitment. That is why I chose to stay on and support my successor during the transition period. Through teamwork and collaboration, the torch will keep burning bright,\u201d said Gilles Courteau.<\/p>\n

\u201cGilles Courteau has left a positive and lasting mark on the League. His achievements are numerous and thanks to his leadership, his vision, and how he promotes and encourages teamwork, he has contributed to increasing the prestige and credibility of the League”, added Richard L\u00e9tourneau. “His advice on the recruitment process, combined with the support he offers to the person taking over, will contribute to a successful transition of the Commissioner’s duties.”<\/p>\n
