C'est ce samedi en début de soirée que les Foreurs entamaient leur calendrier régulier de la saison 2023-2024. Pour l'occasion, les Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda étaient en ville, offrant déjà aux partisans une première Guerre de la 117 cette saison. Mathis Lussier obtenait le départ pour le Vert et Or, faisant face au récent vainqueur de la Coupe Memorial William Rousseau chez les visiteurs. Tôt dans le match, les Foreurs ont profité d'une sortie de zone hasardeuse des Huskies pour provoquer un revirement et ouvrir la marque. C'est Alexandre Guy qui a fait scintiller la lumière rouge. Sur la séquence, Philippe Veilleux, choix de 1er tour au dernier repêchage, a récolté son premier point en carrière dans la LHJMQ. Rapidement, Rouyn-Noranda a toutefois créé l'égalité grâce à Bill Zonon. Quelques minutes plus tard, un tir de Nathan Baril, qui semblait tout à fait anodin, s'est frayé un chemin pour déjouer Rousseau entre les jambières. Encore une fois, les Huskies ont pratiquement immédiatement ramené tout le monde à la case départ en faisant 2-2. Il s'agissait du premier but de l'attaquant Antonin Verreault avec l'équipe. Alexander Gaudio a ensuite imité Verreault, marquant son premier filet dans l'uniforme vert et or pour redonner les devants aux locaux. Mais, comme le voulait la tradition depuis le début du match, la Meute n'a eu besoin que d'une vingtaine de secondes pour créer l'égalité à nouveau, cette fois par l'entremise de Daniil Bourash. 3-3 au tableau après 20 minutes bien remplies de jeu robuste. Alors que le jeu s'est quelque peu fermé en deuxième, les Huskies ont pris les devants pour la première fois du match avec environ huit minutes à faire à l'engagement. C'est Louis-Philippe Fontaine qui a marqué grâce à un tir parfait dans la partie supérieure. Ensuite au tour du Vert et Or de ramener tout le monde à l'égalité, grâce à l'attaquant Alexis Tanguay qui a profité d'un beau travail du jeune Alix Durocher. Ce dernier a du coup mis la main sur son premier point en carrière dans la LHJMQ. Chaque formation a obtenu des bonnes chances de marquer en troisième, sans toutefois être en mesure de capitaliser. Les gardiens Lussier et Rousseau ont été solides devant leur filet respectif, particulièrement le gardien des Huskies qui a été davantage occupé lors du troisième tiers. 4-4 après les 60 minutes de jeu réglementaire Direction prolongation! Les Huskies ont offert une grosse opportunité aux Foreurs en étant chassés pour avoir eu trop de joueurs sur la patinoire avec 1:22 à faire. Le Tchèque Samuel Fiala en a profité pour décocher tout un tir et déjouer le gardien Rousseau, donnant la victoire aux Foreurs avec son premier dans la LHJMQ, alors qu'il ne restait que quelques secondes à écouler! Gauthier, Potvin, and Squires nominated for Humanitarian of the Year Award

Montreal, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the finalists for the Humanitarian of the Year award, which recognizes a player's outstanding contribution to the well-being of his community. This year's finalists are Kaylen Gauthier of the Sherbrooke Phœnix, Frédéric Potvin of the Val-d'Or Foreurs, and Cam Squires of the Cape Breton Eagles. As captain of the Phœnix, Gauthier has shown exceptional leadership both on and off the ice. The 21-year-old from Drummondville, QC has participated in various community initiatives, including distributing school supplies to underprivileged families and creating the Captain’s Game, which allowed less fortunate families to attend major junior hockey events together. Gauthier has also visited schools, practiced with minor hockey teams, and engaged with fans through the team’s skating activities. Potvin, a native of Val-d'Or, has demonstrated a keen understanding of the importance of getting involved in his own community. He has participated in various charity events, such as the Media's Big Drive to raise funds for local organizations, and has regularly engaged with both fans and minor hockey teams throughout the season. What impressed the selection committee the most was his initiative to participate in the CIBC Run for the Cure with his teammates after finding out that his aunt had been diagnosed with cancer. Potvin is now involved with a committee dedicated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Squires, a sophomore with the Cape Breton Eagles, has not only put up impressive numbers on the ice this season but has also made a significant impact in his community. He selected the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Breton as his charity of choice and thus created the Squires Squad, which donated four season tickets to the youth-oriented, non-profit charity to allow families to attend Eagles games. Squires has also volunteered his time at the club to provide mentorship, talk with the kids about their lives and goals, and even organized a ball hockey tournament to engage the youth.

The QMJHL is launching its recruitment campaign to fill the position of League Commissioner

Montréal, QC – Supported by professionals from MNP, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) is launching its recruitment campaign to find the best candidate to replace Mr. Gilles Courteau as League Commissioner. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the job offer page to learn more about the job requirements. A structured and rigorous process Submitting applications is one of many steps in this process. The selection committee will be chaired by Mr. Richard Létourneau, current President of the QMJHL's Members' Assembly. The QMJHL plans to announce the name of Mr. Courteau’s successor at the end of May 2023. Take note that this recruitment campaign is being launched following Gilles Courteau’s announcement on December 16, confirming his retirement after 47 years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, including 37 years as its Commissioner. Handing over the torch and keeping it burning Mr. Courteau will remain in office for the first six months of the 2023-2024 fiscal year before handing over the reins to his successor, whom he will support in his new role until May 31, 2024. "I am very proud of the evolution of the League and how it has built a strong reputation over the years. All of this was made possible through teamwork and everyone’s commitment. That is why I chose to stay on and support my successor during the transition period. Through teamwork and collaboration, the torch will keep burning bright,” said Gilles Courteau. “Gilles Courteau has left a positive and lasting mark on the League. His achievements are numerous and thanks to his leadership, his vision, and how he promotes and encourages teamwork, he has contributed to increasing the prestige and credibility of the League", added Richard Létourneau. "His advice on the recruitment process, combined with the support he offers to the person taking over, will contribute to a successful transition of the Commissioner's duties."

QMJHL TO RESUME ITS ACTIVITIES ON FEBRUARY 3

Montreal, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League today announced the return to competition of its 18 franchises as of the 3^rd of February. The Assembly of Members was unanimous in wanting to resume league activities. The League's objective remains to play a full 68-game regular season schedule. The remaining games will be played between February 3 and May 1. The adjusted schedule will be released this Monday. Capacity restrictions for every rink will be determined by each province’s Public Health guidelines. The 2022 President Cup playoffs format will be announced at a later date. However, the quest for the President Cup will begin on May 5 and conclude no later than June 15. The schedule for the 2022 Memorial Cup presented by Kia will also be released in the upcoming weeks.

Nearly one hundred former QMJHL players on 2021-22 AHL opening night rosters

Montreal, QC - The American Hockey League (AHL) has unveiled the rosters of its 31 teams for the 2021-2022 regular season and among them are 97 players who have passed through the QMJHL ranks before making the jump to the pro ranks. These former QMJHL members were on the list of active players for their respective teams, or on their list of injured players, at the start of the current season. The Rochester Americans team is the only one that does not feature any QMJHL alumni on its roster. On the flip side, the Montreal Canadiens farm team, the Laval Rocket, is made up of an impressive total of 11 players from the Q, the highest number of alumni on a single AHL roster. Just behind Laval are the Syracuse Crunch and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who each have nine QMJHL representatives. 2021-22 QMJHL regular season schedule unveiled

Quebec City, QC - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League released today its 2021-22 regular season schedule. The campaign will kick off on October 1, 2021 with all 18 teams in action. A full 612-game regular season is scheduled to take place with each team playing 34 home games. It will conclude on Saturday April 2, 2022. The Gatineau Olympiques will begin a new era as they begin play in a brand new state-of-the-art venue, the Slush Puppie Centre. Jacob Gaucher suspended three (3) games

Quebec City, QC - The Director of Player Safety of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Eric Chouinard, suspended today Val-d’Or Foreurs forward Jacob Gaucher for three (3) games. The suspension was handed out following an incident that occurred on May 17th against the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Here is the rationale that led to the decision: At the end of the game, with the score largely out of reach for the opposing team, Jacob Gaucher of the Val-d’Or Foreurs had plenty of time to realize that his opponent was in a vulnerable position. Nonetheless, he hit the Chicoutimi Saguenéens’ player. The contact was severe and the blow was directly to the head. This is an unacceptable gesture that we wish to eliminate in our league. The Director of Player Safety made his decision after having reviewed all available video footage, considered the officials’ report, spoken to the organizations involved and consulted with the Advisory Committee for disciplinary sanctions.
