June 4, 2026<\/strong> \u2013 The Cape Breton Eagles have acquired three players from the 2026 Gilles-Courteau Champions Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens.<\/p>\n

The players include goaltender Lucas Beckman, defenceman Alonso Gosselin, and forward Liam Lefebvre.<\/p>\n

Beckman [2007] is a second-round selection (35th overall) in the 2023 QMJHL Draft by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He played 96 total games with the Drakkar before getting traded to Chicoutimi at the 2025-26 December Trade Period. In his QMJHL career he has 76 wins with a .918 save percentage. In the summer of 2025, he was selected 97th overall in the NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.<\/p>\n

Gosselin [2007] was taken in the fifth round (79th overall) in the 2023 QMJHL Draft by the Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens. The 6’1″ defenceman known for his toughness and offensive skills has 153 total games played in the QMJHL career with 14 goals and 52 points.<\/p>\n

Lefebvre [2007] was a camp-invite in 2024 for Rimouski Oceanic. In his 2024-25 season he played for the Trinity-Pawling School in USHS-Prep, scoring 57 points in 25 games. In his rookie season in the QMJHL he played 34 games with the Oceanic, scoring 29 points. He was then traded to the Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens during the 2025-26 Trade Period. Where he played a total of 45 games, putting up 42points. In the upcoming NHL Draft Lefebvre is ranked 38th among North American skaters.<\/p>\n

The Eagles have announced that they have traded for Foward Maxim Sch\u00e4fer from the league-winning Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens.<\/p>\n

Sch\u00e4fer [2007] is a German-born forward, being selected 18th overall in the 2025 CHL Import Draft. Before coming the QMJHL, Maxim played for Eisb\u00e4ren Berlin in the DEL, playing 31 total games. In the summer of 2025, Sch\u00e4fer was selected 96th overall in the NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. In his rookie season in the QMJHL he played 61 games, recording 52 points.<\/p>\n

Going the other way, the Eagles send a 2026 fifth-round pick (CHI), and Defenceman William Dub\u00e9 (2009).<\/p>\n

Chandler [2007] is a first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2023 QMJHL Draft by Shawinigan. The Bedford native in his QMJHL career (including playoffs) has played 175 games, putting up 41 goals and 67 assists for a total of 108 points. In the summer of 2025, the Boston Bruins selected Chandler in the fifth round (133rd overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Also, a part of the trade the Eagles have acquired German Forward Elias Schneider.<\/p>\n

Schneider [2007] is a first-round pick (45th overall) in the 2025 CHL Import Draft by the Cataractes. The German forward in his QMJHL rookie season (including playoffs) put up 58 points in 63 games played last season.<\/p>\n

Going the other way to Shawinigan the Eagles traded a 2026 first-round pick (QUE), a 2026 second-round pick (VDO), and a 2027 third-round pick (VDO).<\/p>\n

May 27, 2026 (<\/span>SYDNEY, <\/span>NOVA <\/span>SCOTIA) –\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>It was announced today the Cape Breton Eagles have hired Ben Tupker as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-2027 regular season.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the decision to hire Ben, Eagles GM Sylvain Couturier said:<\/p>\n

“We are excited to have Ben he is a young coach that graduated from Cornell University, and he is a very smart hockey mind, eager to learn and be a part of the organization.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Tupker spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant coach for the Cranbrook Bucks in the BCHL finishing 4th in their division and making it to the BCHL Interior Conference Finals.<\/p>\n

The Ontario native started his junior career in 2016-17 with the Carleton Place Canadians, then committing and playing for Cornell University for three seasons before finishing his collegiate career at Union College where he was the team captain for the two seasons. In 2024, he finished up his playing career in the ECHL playing for the Trois-Rivi\u00e8res Lions.<\/p>\n

In the 2017-2018 season, Tupker played for the Carleton Place Canadians of the CCHL alongside Eagles assistant coach Adam Pilotte and under current Eagles head coach Jason Clarke.<\/p>\n

Couturier says the addition of Tupker reflects the organization\u2019s continued commitment to building a strong development culture throughout the hockey operations department.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJunior hockey is about development at every level,\u201d said Couturier. \u201cPlayers are working toward the next step in their careers, and the same can be said for coaches and staff. We want the Cape Breton Eagles to continue being a place where talented people can grow, earn opportunities, and continue advancing in the hockey world. We\u2019re excited for Ben to now be part of that environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Director of Operations Melissa MacNeil says that culture has played a major role in the organization\u2019s growth over the years.<\/span><\/p>\n

April 28, 2026 (<\/span>SYDNEY, <\/span>NOVA <\/span>SCOTIA) –\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>The Cape Breton Eagles have announced the hiring of Thomas Durant as assistant\/video coach ahead of the 2026-2027 regular season.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The Eagles are very happy to have Thomas on board and to join the organization.” said Eagles General Manager Sylvain Couturier.<\/p>\n

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Thomas has spent the previous five seasons in the Valley Wildcat organization, most recently this past season serving as the organizations Goaltending Coach, as well as Assistant Coach with the Jr. A team.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas has also spent time with Hockey Nova Scotia’s High-Performance Program as both a Goaltending Coach & Assistant Coach, bringing home gold at the <\/span>2023 Atlantic Challenge Cup with the U15 Male Team.<\/span><\/p>\n

April 27, 2026 (<\/span>SYDNEY, <\/span>NOVA <\/span>SCOTIA) –\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>It was announced today the Cape Breton Eagles have hired Scott Gouthro as goaltender coach ahead of the 2026-2027 regular season.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Scott is an amazing and well proven goaltending coach, in years past with the Eagles and then his time in the AHL with Calgary as well as for Hockey Canada” says GM Couturier “He has a lot of experience under his belt and we are glad to have him onboard helping out the team.”<\/p>\n

In his coaching career with the Eagles, he has worked with goaltenders such as Ondrej Pavelec, Olivier Roy, David Honzik, and Kevin Mandolese. At the AHL level, he has also worked with Karri Ramo, Jon Gillies, Joni Ortio, and Jonas Hiller.<\/p>\n

Gouthro later joined Hockey Canada<\/span><\/span> in 2009 and 2010 as part of the national goaltender evaluation committee, working with U20 and U18 netminders across the country. In 2011, he helped Team Canada capture gold at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n

During his time with Hockey Canada, he played a key role in the evaluation and development of Jordan Binnington, Scott Wedgewood, Matt Murray, Calvin Pickard, Malcolm Subban, and Laurent Brossoit.<\/p>\n

Gouthro has served as the Eagles\u2019 Strength & Conditioning Coach for the past several seasons and will continue in that role while also taking on goaltending coach responsibilities.<\/p>\n
