Lyke and Tomas Zubrus to the club&#8217;s scouting staff. Both bring valuable experience and insight to the organization as the Eagles continue to strengthen their scouting department.<\/p>\n<p>Zubrus began his scouting career with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL during the 2024\u201325 season, where he spent one year with the organization.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"145\" data-end=\"310\">He has since been with the Valleyfield Braves for the past two years and was hired as a scout by the Reading Royals (ECHL) in June 2025, a role he continues to hold.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"312\" data-end=\"674\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In addition to his scouting work, he was also involved in a semi-professional expansion project in Hong Kong, where he and a group of partners purchased and operated a new team during the 2026 season. Serving as Assistant General Manager and co-owner of the HK Panda, he helped guide the organization to success, capturing a championship in its inaugural season.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">R.C. Lyke, a native of Poughkeepsie, NY, grew up playing AAA hockey for the Ramapo Saints. He went on to play for Suffern High School for two years, where he stood out as a defenseman, leading his team, the county, and the district in points by a defenseman. For his efforts, R.C. was named to both the All-County and All-District teams while helping lead the perennial New York State powerhouse to two Final Four appearances. Years after graduating, he was inducted into the Suffern Hockey Hall of Fame for his accomplishments while playing with the Mounties.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">R.C. enjoyed a highly successful Junior A career, including a stint in the NAHL, where he won a Robertson Cup Championship with the Springfield Jr. Blues. He also played for the Bismarck Bobcats in the AFHL, serving as team captain and being selected to represent the league in the King of the Hill tournament as part of the AFHL All-Star Team. He finished his junior career in the OPJHL with the Syracuse Crunch, where he captained the team and was selected as an All-Star.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">Coach Lyke earned an athletic scholarship to play NCAA Division I hockey at Mercyhurst University. While at Mercyhurst, R.C. quickly gained the respect of his teammates as a key part of their defensive core, which anchored the team\u2019s MAAC Championship run and appearance in the NCAA Division I National Tournament. Years after graduating, he was inducted into the Mercyhurst University Hall of Fame for his accomplishments with the men\u2019s hockey program.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">Following his collegiate career, R.C. played seven years of professional hockey in the IHL, UHL, CHL, and SPHL. He concluded his pro career with the Richmond Renegades in the SPHL, serving as a player-coach during his final two seasons. Known as a solid, hard-hitting, and tough defensive defenseman, R.C. played 418 professional games, recording 20 goals, 71 assists, 91 points, and 632 penalty minutes.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">After retiring from professional play, R.C. transitioned seamlessly into coaching. In 2009, he founded the Richmond Generals AA\/AAA Youth and Junior A hockey organizations. Over a 12-year span, he developed the Generals into a nationally recognized developmental program. Behind the bench, Coach Lyke amassed an impressive record, securing over 819 regular-season and playoff wins in 1,071 games.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">He was nominated for \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d seven times during his tenure and won the MetJHL \u201cCoach of the Year\u201d award for the 2013\u20132014 season.<\/p>\n<p data-ogsc=\"rgb(26, 26, 26)\">Coach Lyke has also served as Head Scout for several organizations, including the Topeka RoadRunners (NAHL), the Aberdeen Wings (NAHL), the Carleton Place Canadians (CCHL), and the Twin City Thunder (NCDC).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 18, 2026 \u2013 The Cape Breton Eagles are pleased to announce the addition of R.C. The organization has identified Broderick as a player who fits both the team&#8217;s competitive vision and long-term development strategy, leading to a formal commitment ahead of training camp.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the 2025-26 season Broderick played for both Yale Jr. Bulldogs 18U AAA &amp; Kent School. For the Bulldogs he scored 52 points in 26 games played, and for Kent School he put up 45 points in 25 games. He is committed to Cornell University in the near future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_isSelectedEnd\"><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">&#8220;Jack is a player we&#8217;ve been very impressed with throughout the evaluation process,&#8221; said Eagles GM Sylvain Couturier. &#8220;His work ethic, character, and potential make him an exciting addition to our organization. He played 96 total games with the Drakkar before getting traded to Chicoutimi at the 2025-26 December Trade Period. In his QMJHL career he has 76 wins with a .918 save percentage. In the summer of 2025, he was selected 97th overall in the NHL Draft by the Ottawa Senators.<\/p>\n<p>Gosselin [2007] was taken in the fifth round (79th overall) in the 2023 QMJHL Draft by the Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens. The 6&#8217;1&#8243; defenceman known for his toughness and offensive skills has 153 total games played in the QMJHL career with 14 goals and 52 points.<\/p>\n<p>Lefebvre [2007] was a camp-invite in 2024 for Rimouski Oceanic. In his 2024-25 season he played for the Trinity-Pawling School in USHS-Prep, scoring 57 points in 25 games. In his rookie season in the QMJHL he played 34 games with the Oceanic, scoring 29 points. He was then traded to the Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens during the 2025-26 Trade Period. Where he played a total of 45 games, putting up 42points. The Bedford native in his QMJHL career (including playoffs) has played 175 games, putting up 41 goals and 67 assists for a total of 108 points. In the summer of 2025, the Boston Bruins selected Chandler in the fifth round (133rd overall) in the 2025 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>Also, a part of the trade the Eagles have acquired German Forward Elias Schneider.<\/p>\n<p>Schneider [2007] is a first-round pick (45th overall) in the 2025 CHL Import Draft by the Cataractes. In 2024, he finished up his playing career in the ECHL playing for the Trois-Rivi\u00e8res Lions.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2017-2018 season, Tupker played for the Carleton Place Canadians of the CCHL alongside Eagles assistant coach Adam Pilotte and under current Eagles head coach Jason Clarke.<\/p>\n<p><span data-ogsc=\"black\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Couturier says the addition of Tupker reflects the organization\u2019s continued commitment to building a strong development culture throughout the hockey operations department.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u201cJunior hockey is about development at every level,\u201d said Couturier. \u201cPlayers are working toward the next step in their careers, and the same can be said for coaches and staff. We want the Cape Breton Eagles to continue being a place where talented people can grow, earn opportunities, and continue advancing in the hockey world. We\u2019re excited for Ben to now be part of that environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-ogsc=\"black\">Director of Operations Melissa MacNeil says that culture has played a major role in the organization\u2019s growth over the years.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u201cThe QMJHL is a stepping-stone league in so many ways,\u201d said MacNeil. \u201cYou see players move on to professional hockey, but the same is true for coaches, staff, and front office personnel throughout the sport.
