Eagles Announce Sylvain Couturier As General Manager
SYDNEY- The Cape Breton Eagles are excited to the announce Sylvain Couturier as the new General Manager, Hockey Operations of the hockey club. Couturier joins the Eagles organization after spending the prior 20 years with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, where he won both the President’s Cup & Memorial Cup in 2018 as general manager.
“It is a privilege for me to be part of the Eagles organization and to be involved in this beautiful community,” said Couturier upon his hiring by the Eagles. “I want to put together a competitive hockey team that the fans can relate themselves to on and off the ice. The main goal is to bring a championship to Cape Breton and make everyone proud of their team.”
Cape Breton Eagles President Gerard Shaw is confident in the hire and is very much looking for Couturier to gets his boots on the ground. “Sylvain’s character, passion, energy, and qualifications are what we were looking for in a General Manager. He is an intelligent hockey mind who has passion for the game and community. We are confident he will lead Cape Breton’s team to the success we are looking for,” says Shaw. “Couturier will be visible, engaged and living in Cape Breton, something our community noted is of great significance to them, and as an organization we could not agree more in the importance of having Sylvain embedded on the island.”
Sylvain Couturier (born April 23, 1968, Greenfield Park, QC) played three seasons in the NHL with Los Angeles and 13 years in the professional ranks playing on the left wing. He was the general manager of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL from 2005 to 2022, also having well played in the QMJHL from 1985 to 1988 with the Laval Titan. Married to Isabelle Morrier for 30 years, he is the father of NHL player Sean Couturier, Charles Couturier and has two grandchildren.
The role of General Manager – Hockey Operations is to oversee the is responsible for the management and coordination of all hockey operations including off ice and on ice requirements. This includes the identification and hiring of a head coach, new player talent, trades, player contract negotiations, player education, billeting and the hockey operations budget. This role oversees the Head Coach and works closely with the GM of Business Operations to promote a cohesive and effective senior management team for the Cape Breton Eagles Hockey Club.
