Greg Lynch’s legacy lives on through Cape Breton Eagles’ Irish Night
Nearly two decades after his passing in 2004, the Cape Breton Eagles have continued to recognize the contributions and celebrate the life of a man who played a significant role in the franchise’s legacy.
Greg Lynch was instrumental in moving the former Granby Predateurs to Sydney in 1997, launching the franchise as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Now, every March the Eagles wear special Irish themed jerseys in support of the Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund and in memory of Lynch who was the first team president in franchise history. Lynch passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 50.
Each year the Eagles award the Greg Lynch Memorial Trophy to the player who is recognized as exemplifying leadership and possessing qualities which best represent what it means to be an Eagle. A photo of Lynch sits on the wall inside the Eagles dressing room to this day.
